Nassau Community College : Anyone Applying for Spring 2011

U.S.A. New York

Looking for anyone who is applying to NCC for Spring / January start ( or anyone else on the road to applying) who wants others in the same situation to go through the process with.

I just got accepted to NCC and am in the middle of my first semester. I have to say I am loving it. THe professors are SO nice and helpful. They have so many resources to help you succeed such exam review classes that are 4 times a week. I too got accepted to Adelphi but chose Nassau because the tuition is cheaper, their reputation is very good and there NCLEX passing rate is close to 90% which is VERY high compared to other schools in the area. I'm not going to lie it is a lot of work, alot of studying and reading but I am sure it is like that everywhere. Personally, I love Nassau and am so glad I got accepted into the school. This is my first semester but so far I have nothing but good things to say about the program

Good Luck to all that applied! Kuklara - good to hear from you. I was hoping to get an opinion about the program once someone was in. Glad to see you are happy with it.

Does anyone know when the results will be out? Kuklara - how long was it from the time you applied until you got the results? I estimate near Thanksgiving, but anxious of course.

Hey Dogmom - I applied for the Fall and got my acceptance letter in May...I know that dosnt help you any. I know they stopped accepting applications on October 29th so I am guessing they are now going through the applications. I know that they put everyone's info on a spreadsheet and they use a point system to determine who gets in. I am guessing you should get a little within the next week or so I cant see it being much longer...I think it was like 3 weeks after the deadline that I got my acceptance letter. I know that alot of students got rejection letter way before I got my acceptance letter so if you haven't received anything yet it could def be good news. Keep me posted! Any other questions let me know I am more than happy to help

My Boyfriend is applying and we are both nurvous. He is taking A&PII right now. And he has Microbiology, Sociology and one elective left. I saw they opened more seats for the Spring semester. But, i guess, it will take couple more weeks for us to find out! Good luck to everyone!:coollook:

I noticed that too today. When I was looking at the bulletin board I noticed they had around 90 seats for the daytime program. Other years for the spring they had much less. Good luck to everyone applying!

Hi Everyone!! I promised myself that I would not obsess over the mailman, but ... LOL . Nothing yet .. I noticed that the day program has morning AND afternoon (actually SMACK in the middle of the day) classes. Does anyone (specifically Kuklara..) have any idea if we have any say in which class we can take? I am a bit concerned, since I work 2 p/t jobs that I can rearrange the days, but not the hours.

Again - Good luck everyone !!

Emt -

Do you mind telling me what the class schedule is like at Stonybook? I am considering as a back up for Fall if I don't get in NCC. I work out that way (10 minutes down the road) 3 days a week at 3pm - so if I could have classes finish before 2:30 it would be doable. Also, Do you know anything about the ADN-BSN program there? I heard only 25 people / year get in and that they only take those already working at ADN or CNA. Any truth to this?

Hey Dogmom -

Unfortunately they give you your schedule and it is what it is. If you schedule does now suit you you MIGHT be able to switch with someone else ebcause I remember when I was at orientation they made an announcement that whichever students wanted to switch schedules to go to the front of the room but a student had to request it. Along with your schedule that they choose for you they also choose which hospital you be at. Remember: the day you are at the hospital it is an 8-2 day, I even get out at 3 sometimes.

I think it depends on the schedule you get because I have morning classes right now except for the day I am in the hospital. Other than the hospital day my latest day is 12:30 on Wednesdays. Other says I am out at 11, and 9:40.

**I truly feel your pain about waiting for the mailman it STINKS**

Haha - wait until you get into NCC...you have to wait a week before you get your test grades back- its like waiting for the mailman all over again lol

Thank you Kuklara -

Wouldn't you know, I just got home and there is a letter from NCC Acedemic/Student Services dept. I had to pour a cup of coffee and take a deep breath ... only to see it is UNRELATED!! LOL

So there are 9 "day classes". Only 3 of the 9 would be a problem. I'll keep my fingers crossed on that.

Thank you again, for all of your kind words and for all the information I have learned from your posts over the past year.

Ladies-

Sorry I didn't respond to your earlier posts, I'm hardly on here. To answer your earlier question, I heard medical micro is extremely tough and so much info to absorb that's a summer class is horrendous. However, this is a subjective opinion from only 2 people I spoke with. You should be your own judge and know your own limitations and strengths.

I also got a ton of mail from NCC this month but nothing from Nursing Dept. yet!! Trying to be optimistic and hope that the earlier post is correct that rejection letters are sent earlier in the month!!

Good luck to everyone and keep me posted!!

I called the Nursing Department today and they said that results will come out next week. So, have a nice Thanksgiving and do not bother mailperson:). One more week it is!

Dogmom - If you don't mind me asking - How is your GPA and do you have all your pre-reqs done? Do you live in Nassau county?

Don't stress too much about getting the schedule that dosn't suit you. Worst case scenerio at the orientation ask one of the teachers if she could make an announcement if anyone would like to switch schedules - I'm sure it won't be a problem. Let me know when you get the letter. Once you get accepted I'll give you the run down on what to expect at the interview and everything you'll need.
