Looking for a website on organic chemistry, specifically the steps to Naming Organic compounds, such as
1 chloro 2,2,2 trifluoroethyl difluro methyl ether. Anybody want to guess what this is?
So if anybody has any sites in mind, and you wouldn't mind posting, I would appreciate it very much. thanks.

damn, JWK beat me. haha
My first guess was "a cleaner more efficient source of fuel"
but yes its generic Enflurane (Ethrane)
Pete,
I found a site that will help with nomenclature.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_group
Enflurane is an isomer so the chemical structure is somewhat pliable.
It is an anesthetic with a fast onset and metabolism generally used for induction of "sleep" prior to surgery. It is used in Obstetrics for analgesia during lady partsl delivery. Today Isoflurane is primarily used due to the observation of "eliptiform" wave activity on EEG seen with Enflurane.
Ether or sweet oil was discovered by Spanish chemist, Raymundus Lullius in 1275. In 1540 German Scientist, Valerius Cordus described how to synthesize it and Swiss physician, Paracelsus discovered the medicinal uses of ether.
For more information go to Vanderbilt: http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:y3HiffJH8gwJ:www.safety.vanderbilt.edu/pdf/hcs_msds/enflurane_ethrane.pdf+enflurane+indications&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=3
I am surprised at you guys. The structure listed was Isoflurane, although it is very difficult, I admit to dicipher the difference b/w enflurance, isoflurane, and desflurane.
It is nearly impossible to tell the diff. b/w ethrane and iso cuz they are isomers. Des. has no chloride, so it is a little easier to tell from the other two. On the ethyl group, iso has a carbon with 3 flourides unlike ethrane w/ a carbon w/ 1 flouride and another carbon w/ 2 flourides on the ethyl.
Can't believe I'm typing this right before the superbowl! I'll probably have to study at Half Time. Did I say I Hate Chemistry.
Thanks for the site though.

i am just glad to see other programs make you learn all that too..
our director thinks it is funny to draw chemical structures.. not just of inhalationals - but of fent, propofol, remi and muscle relaxants and make us name em.... ugh

athomas, hope all is well!!!
hahah! Pete495 is in Drexel's progam also! So it looks like we still may be the only program that finds it fun to name and draw chemical stuctures!!!

I'd rather draw snoopy cartoons. I do that when he's not looking.
oh, no- he enjoys snoopy characters...
and keep in mind - those structures will come back to haunt you later!!! :)
