  1. athomas91! Hope all is going well, i will see you you next friday. I cant believe this semester is over already. Blee1, Again, i think u have the right idea. You know your own comfort level and what u are capable of intellectually and emotionally. Do not be intimidated, stand strong, study harder than everyone else and you will pull through. I do not agree with the previous post about the weakest students being those with the least experience. I can confidently say that in my class of 26 there are many extremely smart students with few years of experience who are very well prepared for class and clinical. Message me with any questions, id be glad to help... -TNT
  2. Blee 1 I am finishing my first semester of CRNA school and i only had 2 years of experience. I do feel slightly at a disadvantage, but it is not enough for me to regret my decision. I think it was the BEST decision i ever made. Do not let others discourage you...i am only 24 and as long as you are willing to put the time and effort needed to do well you will be fine. I am a fast learner, i am doing well in clinicals and i am obtaining excellent grades... In my opinion, I'd rather get my education out of the way before i have too many obligations. My words of wisdom..get your 2 year experience and then go for it! Sorry if there are typos im working on little sleep and i have a test tomorrow! Hope this helps... Good luck!
  3. I applied when i was 23 and am now 24 and have been in Anesthesia school for a little over a month now. I dont think i am at a disadvantage because i only have 2 years experience. I am mature enough to know all the work that needs to be put in a program of this nature. Many of my friends are still partying every night and are going to work on 3 hours of sleep. They dont understand that I am unable to perform competently under those circumstances. I guess my point is that if you are mature enough at a young age and are ready for the challenges ahead then you will be just fine in an anesthesia program. Just obtain you ICU experience at a large hospital where you will learn alot in a short period of time. -TNT
  4. athomas, hope all is well!!! hahah! Pete495 is in Drexel's progam also! So it looks like we still may be the only program that finds it fun to name and draw chemical stuctures!!! -TNT
  5. I agree i dont know how this topic turned into a bash against CRNAs. I'm a SRNA and I thought Yoga CRNA was being very kind in offering information to a younger student interested in the profession. Lucy 54 thank you for stickin up for yourself and in no way were you being insensitive or belittling anyones career. I am not one to make waves, but i had to stick up for my future profession. It seems like everyone likes to blame nurse anesthetists for EVERYTHING. As for you kiteman, my boyfriend (Who is a cop, by the way!) was reading this forum with me and would like to appologize to Yoga CRNA and Lucy54 for all of your rude/ignorant comments. We both work hard for a living and should respect each others professions for we both may need to help one another in the future. TNT
  6. Hey David, Ill be lookin forward to meeting ya...classes are right around the corner..Happy Holidays! Tiffany
  7. I worked at a large hospital with a 12 bed CCU. We also have monitor techs located on anther floor that call with changes in out patients rhythms. However, if a patient is in Vtah, VFib, SVT, and of course Asytole our montior techs can anounce problems overhead and they will say "Check bed 7" or so forth. If that happens we know to run with the code cart. Our system tends to work fairly well. However, our ICU prints their own strips and has to monitor their patients themselves.
  8. Hello, I graduated in 2003 and took my first job in the CCU at a large hospital. If you want to enter critical care then you need to let me know your reasons why because it is a difficult place to start. If you are set on working there and are ready to work hard/read and learn outside of work, are a quick learner/good student then you will do fine. I entered the CCU to apply into anesthesia school which I start January 4th. Therefore, if u want to do it go for it! The transition is difficult but dont EVER let anyone tell you not to do it b/c you have no prior experience. You can do anything you put your mind to it. Just take everyones advise and form your own opinion. I worked nite shifts and it was a young crew mostly all of us were under 35. We always worked together and asked eachother questions. I've seen many new grads love it, and ive also seen new grads drop out of orientation b/c the pace was too fast and it just wasnt for them. I hope this helps...bottom line if this is what you want GO FOR IT!!! Im sure you'll be great....
  9. ESFJ- I think im the only one with this type on here! hahah, i dont know if thats a positive thing. Start CRNA school this January 2006! Happy Holidays!
  10. In my opinion one B is not going to affect your chances of being accepted into CRNA school. I graduated with a 3.73 and was just fine. Just remember, there are other factors that come into play: your GRE/MAT scores, Critical Care experience, Interview. I had two years experience in the CCU at a level 1 trauma center and start Anesthesia School in January 2006!! Just work hard, dont sweat it. I am also very anal and strive to get an A is all my classes, so I understand where you are coming from, but dont stress! Work hard, study, and enjoy learning...life is too short to be that stressed out! This is what i have learned in the past 2 years...hope this helps!
  11. Hello and Happy Holidays! I start Anesthesia school in January 2006. My undergraduate GPA was 3.7. However, I had 2 B's in Science courses. I am very bright and just had a lot of things going on at that time in my life. Therefore a few B's arent going to kill you in my opinion as long as you keep your GPA up. CRNA school is very competitive, but remember if you receive an interview your grades and GRE/MAT score put you there. The interview is also very important in my opinion. You have to make yourself stand out. I always ask myself "If there are 100 applicants how am i going to make them remember me and only me." You have to sell youself. Just work hard and do your best, and dont forget to have a little fun. Stay optimistic! Feel free to ask me any questions! Xx Good Luck! Xx
  12. Congratulatons!!!! The Drexel interview was very informal and less nerve racking then others (or so ive heard, I only interviewed at Drexel). I start Drexels Program January 2006 which is right around the corner, Yikes! Faculty is very nice and the program allows you to take 6 prerequisite courses the year prior to starting which should help with the workload (my cousin graduated from there and he advised me to take them!) If you have any questions feel free to ask!! Ill be leaving for Antigua on tues Dec. 13 after finishing my final! A much needed vacation prior to classes beginning fulltime!!! Good Luck!
