Yes, there are lots of good choices from the pool of my parents' friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, I live 3000 miles away from them. I don't know if a phone interview is an option

Phone interviews may still be an option--that's how I did mine. Just to be on the safe side, check with your Academic Coach if he/she is OK with it.

I hope all is well with your family and friends out east.

ScarletFire,

My AC told me to open readings through Foxfire. That worked. Now I can't figure out how to submit my self evaluation including the aging quiz, etc. I emailed her about that also. I do not like blackboard, but sure it will get easier. I have a neighbor who is 83, but hate to ask him soooooo many questions. Feels invasive. Hope you can find someone. Please let me know if I can be any support or assistance. Surely I can do this! This is one of the easy classes. It is just more frustrating navigating the software.

thanks for listening

Rosemary

Hi Rosemary,

yeah, blackboard is not too friendly. I know how to use it because of Texas gov class.

for assignment submission, try this: click on the teensy file folder called "assignment." Click again to open the actual assignment and you should see a large rectangular space which looks like you would just type in it as if you were sending an email or something. Scroll down a bit to the bottom. Now, you should see a small box saying, "Browse my computer." click on that and you can browse either your desktop, or a download folder or where ever you have your completed assignment. You will be brought back to that large rectangular space again. Look for the Submit bottom on bottom right. click and voila...it should go. :no:warning: I have a Mac, so this method may not be the same for you.

Hey ScarletFire,

Gosh thanks so much for the help. I still cannot get it to work. Were you able to submit the self evaluation for week #1. Maybe I am missing the teensy file folder called "assignment". I called the IT department today and sent another email to my AC. The work isn't difficult, but this software stuff is!!:( You gave me such great instructions but still can't seem to find the box "Browse my computer". Lordy, think I should get a new computer. I have a sony visio (sp) with internet explorer as my browser and I think Windows 7. I have tried opening in Firefox and updating my Java. I will keep trying. Hope your loved ones are OK. Hate what those folks are having to go through!!!

Gotta go vote. Later!!! I almost had a stroke over the above issue last night then I tried to put it ALL in perspective.

Thanks Rosemary

Hi Rosemary,

maybe I didn't explain it very well. Start by opening Blackboard. Log in w/ your password. In the upper left corner, you should see a box called Course List with a list of all the courses you are taking. Click on Holistic. when it opens, you should see a grey box in the upper left-hand corner with the class title. if it is not already opened, click on it and you should see the following listed:

Announcements

+getting started

Attestation

________________________________________________

+ (teeny file folder icon just like we had in Epic) Week 1

Week 2

etc, etc.

Click on + sign adjacent to the words "Week 1" to open and you should see:

-what is aging

+objectives

+self-assessment, and so on; further down on the list should say, "+ (file folder icon) Assignment"

Click on + sign next to the word "Assignment" to open and you should see a teeny icon of a piece of paper with a corner folded over next to the words "Assignment 1-Life Review". Click on that and this is where you will see large rectangles with 1. Assignment Information w/ Instructions for downloading, the rubric, etc and (if you scroll down) 2. Assignment Materials above an empty rectangle to use to write something and then the smaller rectangle with the words Browse my computer next to another small rectangle called Browse Content Collection.

So first I downloaded the assignment and it went into a download file on my computer. I closed all of the above. I worked on the assignment and when it was completed, I came right back here and clicked on the Browse my Computer button in order to find the assignment in order to attach it to this page. When I found the right file, I clicked the Submit button, which is in the far right very bottom of your screen.

hope this helps. let me know.

Hey, don't forget to rename your assignments. You can expect this from now on. Best thing to do is create a file (N3325) and download assignments to put there so you can find them real easy when ready to turn in. I even made weekly files under my main file so I don't turn in the wrong assignment. Is that to much info???

Hey ScarletFire, You are sooooooooooooooooo kind to help me so much! I think I finally figured out what I was doing wrong. Guess it was just opening my mind and eyes to Blackboard. Really, really appreciate all the time and help.

Hey, if we make it through this I was thinking about taking assessment in January!? Love to have some company!

Thanks

amyrnfa. Good idea to open a file for N3325! Thanks for the reminder to rename assignments with my name in the file name!

rosemrn,

glad things worked out for you. I kind of figured it was just a matter of looking in the right place on blackboard. I miss Epic.

If anybody is having problems viewing the "Functional Decline" video for week 2 in the assignment section, I found it on Allnurses in the educator section and watched with no problems. (My macs seem not to like the format in the course sections at UTA). If you ever have problems viewing videos in your course readings, just google them. Usually someone else has them downloaded in a more suitable format. UTA sometimes seems behind the times because their lessons are from several years ago and nobody updates the content.

Hi Amy,

yes, I also could not open it either on my Mac or on my husband's PC. I don't know anything about the educator section here, but will try to find it now and will let you know. thanks.

Hi Amy,

After some time, I finally found the functional decline video in the allnurses educator section, but still could not view it. Finally, I found it by going to the AJN website and viewed it easily. Now, however, I can't open the wound care videos and since they are filmed in a classroom, there are not available anywhere else. Any suggestions before I jump out the window?

I did open the wound care videos and it was mostly pictures of how to document wounds. You REALLY DON'T NEED THEM except for info. Hope this helps!

ScarletFire,

I got an email to my uta email account with a link to the wound care pictures/video. Do NOT jump out the window. If I can find it I KNOW you can. I just took week #2 quiz and should have read a little more thoroughly. Oh well. Have not received a grade for my week 1 discussion board. Keep up the good work and NO jumping out ANY windows. We have to hang in there!!!!
