I am applying for a LPN program in Florida (panama city) at a techincal school. I did not see anything listed as far as a NET test to apply, and was wondering if this is standard for all school to have this test. ANy info would be great in regard to thus test.

Hi jwy66

I have not took the test yet. I take it on the 23rd. I am try to get into the same program at a community college and I think they are all the same. They say the test consist of natural science knowledge, academic aptitude and reading ability.

Study how to add, sub,multiply and divide fractions and decimals. They also told us of a book we can use as a study guide. Nursing School and Allied Health Entrance Exam by Arco Review Books Author: Gooding. Of course I have this book and it teaches you the basic of math, science and reading comp.

Ask a your Program Director or Department Head about guides on the test. Because there are more than just that book. My school is using that one.

Make sure there are no preregs. or prior to classes before you start.

Good Luck!

The above thread is correct. That book is the book that most schools I have seen seem to suggest for ALL the nursing entrance exams.

However, it does have extra stuff in it you won't need for the NET - like the science/chemistry section. At least there was no science or chem on the NET I took (but there was on the RNEE) There was science in the reading passages - but it did not ask us questions that you could not get out of the reading itself. I do not know if this would be different from other schools.

I thought the test was EXTREMLY easy. If you can do basic math involving fractions and decimals you are great on the math part. THere will also be ratios. Be sure you know how do do those. Here is an example in case you don't remember what ratios are (I did not when I studied for the RNEE. It had been too long since the last time I saw it, elementry school, to remember)

2: 4 :: x : 8 (read 2 is to 4 as x is to 8)

4x = 2 x 8

4x = 16

x = 16/4

x= 4

Basically you just multipy the inside two numbers and set them equal to the outside numbers. You then work the problem created by doing that.

The you have your reading test. They give you a set time to read a passage and then have you mark which line of it that you got to when they said stop.

Then there is the reading comprehension. You read a passage and then answer questions about what you just read.

there are several parts to it that do not count. They are testing your learning skills, test taking skills and so on. You should get the results of this with your print-out of how you did on the test. The idea is that it will help you be able to study better. It tells you under what conditions you study best and stuff like that.

I have not seen my results yet. The school said they would bring them to class and give them to us one day - they have not done so yet.

My post was in reference to the pencil and paper edition. I think there is also a computerized version out there.

For my community college for the RN program we were required to take the NET/Nelson Denny. I have already taken it awhile back and it was easy. Simple reading (my friend failed the reading part..so use the study guide!) and simple math (add, subtract, multiply, devide, fractions) I was neverous too especialy when I got their people in the hall were saying this was their second and third trys. We are only allowed to try 3 times in a year.
