MY UNIT IS IN CHAOS

I've been on my unit for one year. We just lost our 5th nursing manager after one year. Do i stay or should i go?

Specializes in Case Manager/Administrator.

I find it odd that the first popular thing to say/think is quitting.

I ask myself these questions when I have a job/have started a new job

1. Am I doing what I want to do-be specific about what your desires of a profession are.

2. If you are in the position of your dreams and there is trouble on the unit due to what ever why would you give up your dream job? Situations change same crap different faces, human nature does not change where ever you go you will find at times it is good and at times your job environment is stressful for reasons beyond your control.

3. I would only consider leaving if I was being asked to do illegal things, perfume against policy/procedure/ or if I directly asked my boss whether or not I had an ability to be considered for promotion/new job responsibilities, if they said no then I would ask why work on those things and then if there was not change after say 6 months then I would leave.

Managers come and go and yes it does hurt the daily operation of the unit. I am glad these managers left it gives your unit a chance to find the right fit. Once the right fit comes along you will wish you were back on that unit.

I am a retired Nursing Home Administrator, my job was to go into troubled facilities-some I would go back multiple times a year. Once the right fit came on board I did not need to go back sometimes for years.

It is your career and I do agree that 5 NM is excessive but consider this...the facility has expectations and want the right person in this position, these last 5 were not the right person.
