My situation.. C's as undergrad

Published

I have a problem.

I posted on here many times. I have a Bachelors degree.

However, many of the BSN programs require almost the same pre reqs.

Well, I the only pre reqs I am lack are the science based ones ( Human A&P Microbio )

I took English and Mathematics during my undergrad

However, I made C's.

My over all under grad was 2.7 . BUT I have grad course work with a 3.2gpa

I am hearing that most of these schools accept students based on their grades. With C's in my past, do you think that these will hurt me?

Also here is something else I was thinking about

I was thiking of going back full time to just complete my pre reqs. (I was wondering if I should declare my major as Pre Nursing as opposed to Non Degree Seeking)

Can anyone offer me some advice on what to do and is my chances of getting into a program are high

I would contact the nursing program directors in your area and inquire about the GPA requirements since it varies depending in what city you live in etc. I went to an orientation at my school which has the RN program I plan to apply to. I took an unofficial transcript with me of everything college related that I had done in my past and had a discussion with the program director. She told me exactly how to approach my studies towards becoming an RN.

It is recommended in my area to have a GPA of at least 3.6 in the pre-requisite courses to be competitive.

Good luck to you.

depending on your area and their requirements, you might want to consider taking those basic courses again to raise your GPA. I am in the Dallas Tx area, and the competiton to get into a nursing programm is very high. Even though the official gradepoint average required is only around 2. something ( at least that is what they tell you at the schools), it is hard to get in a programm, when they base acceptance on your GPA. The school I got accepted at turned away people with 4.0 in prerecs, that didn't have enough other supportclasses done. But check your schools and listen araund, how it went previously for them in term of acceptance. It is really hard to get in, because there are more students that want to become nurses, then there are school openings. YOu might want to take those basic prerec courses in a short summersemester again, to bring up your GPA, they should be all repition for you , so you probably will do much better this time around. Plus, now you have the advantage of knowing what you really want as a major and are striving for it. A goal helps. As to your science classes, they are more intence , and I recommend you take these one semester at a time. That way you can fully concentrate on them and do good. Some schools look at your science GPA's , more then the other classes. You have a specific dream, goal now, so don't give up. There are lots of people that had to try twice , but they didn't give up. You can do it , believe in yourself and your dream. Good luck

I agree with the rest....... Contact the schools that you are interested in attending! They are the best source for information. From my experience, accelerated programs and grad entry are bit more forgiving with your gpa (some more forgiving than others). Most schools that I have investigated are not only interested in GPA, but your current occupation and job experience, volunteer experience, GRE scores and your understanding of nursing. Your graduate GPA is great. So if that is your most recent course work, it will stand out.

About the prereqs, do the best you can do with the ones you have not taken. I wouldn't take the time to redo any of the old ones until you find out from schools if they will count retaken courses.

I wish you the best of luck! And don't give up!
