It went really well, I'm happy to report. :) My class is small (it seems like a lot of people who were at orientation weren't there - not sure if they changed their minds or what), and everyone is really friendly.
First off, we got our books. I'm talking like a 3 ft tall stack of heavy books. Oh my. I guess our first test was to see if we could lift those things.. :chuckle The downer is the fact that half the class didn't get Nutrition books because they are on backorder! Of course, my luck, I was in the group that didn't get it. :uhoh21: They said they'd be here in about 3 weeks, but the Nutrition class (which started today) is only 7 weeks long, so we'll be without books for almost half of it! I'm feeling a bit antsy not having a book to study from. Our instructor said that she'd give us some internet resources to use to study from as well as detailed notes in class. She also mentioned that she'd have the secretary possibly photocopy at least the reading assignments for us. I guess we'll see how it works out. I have to admit that the thought of getting one quick from Amazon has crossed my mind, but I already paid for the book already and I really can't afford to pay for it twice, you know?
Today was pretty much an overview of the class and some general information. I got to leave after that because (luckily) I do have most of the "non-nursing" courses completed and they were studying English in the afternoon.
The fundamentals of nursing classes are later this week. I'm really looking forward to it... even more now that I've skimmed over the books.
On to tomorrow!

Congrats on making it through your first day! Why can't you get the ISBN number for the nutrition book and order it off Amazon etc? Probably a lot cheaper and they usually arrive very quickly. Take care, J

The school ordered our books for us after our orientation last month. I have the ISBN, but my book through the school is already paid for (my financial aid covered my books). It was just my luck that my last name is in the last half of the alphabet and they ran out of the stock they had before my order was filled. I'm thinking that if I get through this week and feel like "wow - I'm in over my head" without the book, I'll order one and eat the cost. Otherwise I'll just wait for it to come in.

I would strongly advise you to get on Amazon for that book you can probably find it for like 10.00 used. You do not want to be caught without a book and you can alway sell you book later or just keep it, I have two medical dosage calculation books, I thought I lost one and went on Amazon and got a nice one for 7.00. I was actually able to pick up my book today, so thank goodness the "3 week backorder" was an overestimation!
Well, I'm on day 4 today. tomorrow is our first "clinical", but we will just be going over rules, privacy, etc and then taking a tour of the medical library as well as the floor we are assigned to.
Is it too early to feel overwhelmed? lol I have 3 tests and a project due next week already! :)

Do a search at http://www.campusi.com It will pull up tons of online places that the book is available at, including ebay and half. Like someone already said, you'd better get the book instead of waiting for it.

Um, I posted 4 hours ago that I already got my book today. :typing
Thanks for the advice, though. I was leaning towards getting one when I got the note that our books came in. I do have to give the school and my teacher credit - they did go and photocopy all the reading assignments for those of us without books so we didn't get behind at all. The only thing I feel I missed out on was the pretty charts and graphs that I can now see!
