My first Birth, what should I bring

Published

So I'm on pins and needles! I am so excited this will be my forst birth (well first I have not been the mom)

My sister has requested I help he through birth. I have packed alot of things to help through contractions. She seems to be doing very well I've been over acouple times to 'drop in' and go over some methods of relaxation. She has been contracting on and off for a couple weeks- she believes they are intense until the next day her previously intense no longer seems so.

Anyhow, I have some things what items do you feel are helpful in pain management? Or othetr helpful tools?

One of the things my dear friend loved when I was one of her "birth mothers" was lavender oil. Lavender is used by our alternative medicine department for pain relief, and just a drop or two on each shoulder just smelled so heavenly and made her feel so good. We also had the best time just laughing a giggling before labor progressed to the point where laughing just couldn't be anymore. She really enjoyed foot massages and gettiing into as many different positions in the bed for back rubs and such. To this day she still talks about her "birth mothers" experience and how much it made a difference.

Good luck to mommy to be and baby (and you)
