MUSC DNP Fall 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Anyone here applied to MUSC Fall DNP program for their FNP track? I'm anxiously awaiting their decision and would help to find somebody going through the same nail biting process.

Received my acceptance letter today. Waiting to hear from another school before making my decision. I'm in Louisiana.

I got my rejection letter yesterday, I was already told by email last week. I'm waiting for George Washington, which I'm not very confident about since they put more weight on the GPA than MUSC. They recommend taking some classes to bring up my GPA or take the GRE. I'm not interested in taking the GRE, I'm looking into a post BSN certificate in Nursing Ed, which is my career goal anyway, when I complete all 12 credits I can transfer them to any school in a DNP program. I applied to 2 schools and I'm waiting for my application to be complete and a decision soon after. I just wanted to share that with you all, just in case some of you are in my same situation where you needed a way to improve your chances of getting in next time. Congratulations to all those who have been accepted, continue to post your journey here so we can know how you're doing.

taylorthompson, did you get everything straightened out?

Hey guys! Unfortunately my letter was not a mistake, I did not get in--talk about a mental breakdown last week haha! I am still taking classes at MUSC currently to get my BSN (in my second semester) I have a 4.0 in my nursing classes there now, I had a 3.0 at my technical school that I got my ADN at if you only count nursing courses but I had some issues with my first year of college...10 YEARS AGO, didn't do well because I was diagnosed with crohn's disease and ended up having to withdraw after my first semester at USC and my grades suffered. Since that time I obviously had retaken the classes that I did not do well in but I think that may keep me from ever getting in to a DNP program :( I can't change 10 years ago so I am just going to keep my head up, I think my cumulative GPA is like a 2.8 and I just don't even know if getting a 4.0 in the RN-BSN program and all A's and B's in the ADN program is enough to fix the three or four classes I failed my first go at college. If anyone has advice I would appreciate it greatly!

Hi taylorthompson

Sorry to hear about the mix up, that must have been confusing. Did you see my post about their recommendations? you can try taking the GRE and do well and that will increase your chances of getting in. Send an email and ask what they recommend, it may different for you and take it from there. My GPA (2.92) was the reason I didn't get in as well. I'm just not interested in spending the time and money. I'd rather spend the energy doing a post BSN certificate, in the end if it doesn't help my chances of getting in, I will still have gotten something out of it that I can use, in real time in my current position or to advance into a teaching position at the hospital where I work, it's just a better investment for me. Plus work will pay for it. There are alot of schools that have post BSN certificates with different tracks, all on line. Good Luck to you

This may sound so impatient of me but I have no desire to apply anywhere unless I can start this fall or in the spring. We do have a college that just implemented a NP program (Francis Marion University) and it is a hybrid program (mostly online but some class time). It is only a Master's but they will accept applications up until the Wednesday prior to classes starting and since they were recently accredited I don't think that they will be as harsh about GPA (I know that sounds bad) but in my eyes a degree is a degree no matter where it comes from, my ADN nor my BSN will get me any further in nursing because of where I got it from and I don't want to stop school and then start again (I tend to do bad if I try to do that). I am going to think about doing that, the difficult thing is that I work a M-F 8-5 job so I would have to find a new job if I decided to take a hybrid route.

taylorthompson, University of Alabama (USA) has a BSN-DNP Spring '18 start as well, you may want to look into their program, you have to apply thru nursingCAS, I'm hearing that they are a little more forgiving about the GPA, the deadline is in July so you have some time. I just submitted my application. There's an allnurses thread for the program, Keep me posted, I'll PM you my personal email.

I am new to this thread but I have been accepted for the fall semester as well!! DNP program

I was put on the alternative list for fall 2017 DNP family practice post-BSN.. has anyone else heard back?!?? :/

Hey everyone, Found this threat in hopes of finding some answers for myself on my likelihood of being accepted to this DNP-FNP program. I am currently enrolled in Bradley University's DNP-FNP program but decided to apply to MUSC to try to "transfer" since MUSC is MUCH closer for me and it will be easier for me to find clinical sites. I have been in this program for a year now, and it is a good program, but I just would rather be somewhere closer to my physical location. I was wondering if anyone would be willing to PM me or share with me what you stats were (GPA, clinical experience, etc)? I have been working as a full time BSN-RN for 2 years and just recently obtained my CRRN. I had right at a 3.3 GPA in undergrad. spent two summers in Haiti volunteering with the mobile medical clinic... still go there but have not went this year yet! Somebody please help a girl out! thanks everyone!

I think it sounds like you have a pretty good chance. You have experience, certified, a good gpa, and volunteer experience. However, I will say there are a lot more applicants this year so it will be more competitive.
