Multiple Job Offers

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hello everyone,

I am a new RN grad in the Raleigh area and thankfully, I've been offered several new grad internships at local hospitals. After narrowing down the offers, I am stuck trying to choose between Medical floors at both Rex and Wake Med.

Both hospitals are offering comparable starting pay rates and shift diffs. The benefits, I believe, are better at Wake Med, but that doesn't matter much because I'm single with no kids. The distance isn't an issue either. I am about 5 minutes to Rex and 10-15 to Wake.

I guess I would like to hear from nurses that have worked at Wake Med, Rex or both that are willing to share the pros and cons in order to help me make a final decision. TIA. :monkeydance:

Kimmie,

Hi. It looks like you started at WakeMed in the children's ED back in Jan. I was wondering how it was going. I am in nursing school right now, graduate in May and I am very interested in WakeMed. Looking into the peds floor right now.. I would love to get some input from a fairly new employee. Thanks a lot!

Go to WakeMed.org and check out the available positions at WakeMed. There are several openings for new grad fellows, but you need to be applying EARLY. They tend to go really fast!!

My understanding, though, is that new grads are seldom hired in peds and L/D. There ARE exceptions, though....so one never knows :D

I LOVE WakeMed....I work at the Cary campus.

Yeah...I was wondering if it was hard to get onto peds as a new grad. We have to complete a preceptorship our last semester of school, and (finger's crossed) hopefully I can get a spot at WakeMed on the peds floor, where we have to complete a certain number of hours with a RN. We'll see I guess!

When do you think is the best time to apply? I know spots fill up early. I called HR and the lady I talked to said around March or April for May grads. I was thinking of applying earlier than that though..

This may have been just MY experience, but I went the "correct" route...applying online, speaking with HR, etc. Da nada.

THEN I went directly to the nurse manager of the unit where I wanted to work and gave her my application packet (nice green folder containing my resume, letters of recommendation, transcript with my grades (not really necessary, but I did have some awesome grades :) ), and a business card that matched the folder). She hired me during the interview and it was AFTER I started working that HR contacted me for interviews.

Peds knows if they have new grad fellowships...wouldn't hurt to apply now.
