about how much did your 1st semester cost

Published

How many classes were you taking and how much was each credit hr? And how much did you spend on book and for how many books. Thanks in advanced for the info.

Approximate breakdown of costs from my program for the first semester:

Tuition: $20/unit * 10.5 units = $210/semester (CC cost in California)

Books: $1900 new (I don't know if that's for the whole program, or just first semester, and whether that includes just the required books or the recommended as well. However, most of the required books are bought during the first semester.)

Background check and drug screen: $100

CPR Certification: $35

ATI Testing fees: $100/semester

Uniforms: Approx $100/uniform, with at least two recommended.

Nurse Kit (practice materials): $130

Stethoscope: $60

Passport photos: $15

Badges and patches: $15

Liability insurance: $20/year

Physical exam and immunizations: They estimate $130, not sure how close to reality that is.

Gas and other expenses: ?

There is just one class per semester, which varies between 10 and 11 credit hours (I know other colleges do this differently, often offering lecture, lab, and/or clinicals as separate classes, or having more than one short-term class on different subjects in a semester). They offer a study-skills type class to get students who need full-time status for financial aid or insurance up to 12 units. There are 11 required and 2 recommended books for the first semester.

1500$ +300 for boooks....

12 credits

if i were to go to university, i would have probably paid 5x the amount for same exact classes... happy i made the right choice.

oh and dont let people throw you down, when they are making fun of you for going to county, because when you graduate, you will be the one living happy and laughing.

I go to a CC and pay $95 per credit. I took 13 credits, 4 classes, this semester, the total being almost $1300 and I paid about $450 for books used & new on amazon. The good thing was I got a grant that paid for almost $1500 of it. CC isn't bad. I figure I end up with the same degree and the same certification for way less $$$.
