how much should i ask for?

Published

I m planning to work for this county jail. dont know what i should ask for hourly wage? any reference?

Typically with county and state positions, they have an established rate, or a range, of what the position pays. If there is a range, you may be able to negotiate within the established range, but, otherwise, it's pretty much a matter of them telling you what the job pays, and your choices are to take it or not.

Usually, it's less $$ than the private sector. It's made up for with benefits, which are fabulous!!!

Also, it depends on your experience, credentials, certificatons, etc. We have several tiers here. Top level is about $35.00/ft., bottom is about $24. Also there's night differential, and language pay (foreign language).

Good luck--let us know how it goes

It also depends on the budget and how bad they need ya. I say toss out a figure that you feel is right and see what happens. ;)

A staffing service here in San Diego is offering $50/hr. I'm guessing that's because they haven't had much luck either getting or keeping nurses. I've never worked in corrections before, but I am interested in it, esp. at those pay rates. Some of the thought of it is a little off-putting, but maybe I'll check it out. :idea:I am a male nurse, by the way.

agency pay for RN's in corrections is about $50/hr.

state rn pay at the prisons is 6500-8000, depending on the area.

bay area prisons pay the upper range.

i quit the prisons and went to the state mental hospital.

more rewarding, took a pay cut to $6600 a month, but still better than the local hospitals which is about $30-32 hr.

Donovan, the san diego prison is the best pay you can get in san diego.

about $7000 a month.

VA can't touch that, VA san diego wanted to pay me i think 50k a year, i was doing that as a LVN 10 years ago, no way going backwards now that i'm a RN.

Sharp, Scripps, Mercy in san diego pay what, $28-32 hr?

I worked at Donovan, i hated it compared to other prisons, you may like it though.
