Well, our Pacific Northwest Volcano is grumbling again. Mt. St. Helens is having many earthquakes, steaming and waking up from it's slumber. When and if it blows it's not suppose to be as dramatic as it was in 1980, but it will get Portland ashy as it did before. Right now the scientistis are keeping an eye on it.
The one volcano which I hope doesn't blow, is Mt. Hood. I love that mountain, it's so pretty, especially in the winter. Would hate to see it's pretty peak blown off, like Mt. St. Helens is, plus Mt. Hood is quite close to Portland, and that wouldn't be too good either.

I heard that on the radio tonight. We are in the same Pacific rim as you . . Mt. Shasta to the north and Mt. Lassen east. (I'm tentative on the directions . . I'd say Mt. Shasta was to the right and Mt. Lassen to the left).
Both gorgeous views from here in our little valley. Plus, when you start to drive towards either, there is one particular place on each highway where they loom large.
Better than hurricanes anyday. :)

I was in Portland when St. Helens blew. I don't remember as I was only two. We shall see what happens this time around.

i remember walking around wearing a mask when i was little and kicking up a lot of ash. (also vaguely remember hearing a loud crack when it blew.) I hope it turns out to be just a steam eruption, but who knows... this is the most activity in 20 years so we could be in for a surprise.
Here in Portland, we can see both Mt. St. Helens and Mt Hood, the contrast between each mountain is interesting, before and after it erupts.
I still would rather be here, watching the volcano become active than be in Florida or the southern USA areas. This has been a bad summer for anyone in the hurricane belt. I'm very sad for them and all their great losses.
