MSN

I am looking at two different MSN tracks either an education track or clinical nurse leader. Does anyone have experience with either of these, I would like to keep my focus broad so I don't pigeon hole myself. Thanks

Out of the two MSN tracks you've listed, the clinical nurse leader specialization has the broadest focus. It would qualify you to work in management, research, infection control, education, utilization review, and a wide array of other areas.

However, if you wish to teach at the university level, many reputable schools will want the MSN with a nursing education specialization.

As a CNL myself, I would recommend the CNL focus for your MSN degree.

The CNL is not forced into a specialization, such as "Cardiology", for example.

With your MSN, CNL, you are able to take your advanced nursing knowledge and apply it to any Microsystem, be it in-patient, or out-patient.

However, if you wish to teach at the university level, many reputable schools will want the MSN with a nursing education specialization.

I'm sure there is variation around the country, but in the areas in which I've lived over the last decade or so, community colleges are using (and advertising for) faculty with the MSN in education, but university program job postings specify which advanced practice specialization and certification they are looking for. I, personally, haven't yet seen any university nursing program job postings that specified they were looking for MSNs in education.
