MSN in Psychiatric/Mental Health nursing

Published

I speak with the head of the BSN program here next week about changing my major from Psych to nursing... I hear we have a cohort of undergrads that are going into Psychiatric nursing eventually- anyone have a clue as to what that is?

I WAS going to become a Clinical Psychologist until I learned that with an MSN in Psych/Mental Health you could provide psychotherapy- I decided that would be the best route for me- less time in school and more job security- the best of both worlds, I think.

If my schools entrance GPA into the Nursing program is 2.8- with a 3.125, do you think I have a decent shot of getting in? Granted, I still have like 2-3 semesters of core left...

This is the route I'm planning on taking as well. I am in my first semester of the clinical nursing program right now. As far as your GPA, I don't know. Every school is different, although in my experience nursing programs seem to be universally competitive. The lowest accepted GPA in my clinical class was a 3.56

Many Master level programs are not as hard to get into as a lower level degree, though you may have to take the GRE. For Bachelor programs in this area (Michigan), a 3.0-3.5 GPA is the norm, though it depends on the school. AD schools are harder to get into than BSN. Having your core classes completed can help too.

I can you tell me of colleges offering a masters in psyhe,I am interested in CNS focusing in mental health.

thanks
