DX MRSA in urine...tx macrodantin....no cath placed....is this common? At all the other facilities I have worked, we always placed a cath. No a private room either, and both patients use the same toilet?

i may be completely missing something here, but wouldn't an indwelling catheter not be a good idea for mrsa in urine? i feel like that may very well be how the patient developed such an infection in the urine anyway.
as for the isolation, i've never seen a patient with known mrsa, regardless of where the infection is located, not isolated or cohorted with another mrsa patient (rule-out mrsa is a seperate problem).

I had a similar experience in LTC, but I am not at liberty to comment on the correctness of the practice, as I am only a CNA. Our resident had MRSA in her urine. The only precautions were "good handwashing." Standard percautions were apparently enough. Excuse me!? What about the poor roomate? Roomate passed away six weeks later from something apparently unrelated.
