Hi!
I am moving to Wichita during the second week of July--so I was going to start applying for jobs in a couple weeks. The nurse recruiter said they don't hire GNs on most critical floors, the ED, or on labor and delivery. So I was hoping to apply to a PCU floor--do you know if those are open much? I've only seen a couple and they are only night shifts. Where would you suggest me applying to? Sorry I have so many questions I am just quite lost as I'm not from the area.
Thanks for any help you can give me! :)
Well that sounds about right. If you want to eventually gain some critical care experience, then applying to a PCU floor would be a good idea. I work nights. I finished my BSN about two years ago, and decided to start on nights to get my feet wet. I don't regret it. I would do the same thing over again without hesitation. You will have to look at the availability of the job openings. Also, the recruiter was really good about getting me the position I wanted. There is a three step interview process: the nurse recruiter (who then directs you to the right department), the manager, and then the peer interview. I work med-surg, so I could tell you more about that.
I too may be moving to WF in a few weeks and really need a guesstimate on what my hourly rate would be. I have been a nurse since 93, I have my BSN and 2 classes away from my MSN. (Heading for NP) I have worked agency in hospitals and home care for my entire career and there aren't many departments I haven't worked. I have a Missouri license so that will work in Texas. Can anyone give me a rough idea how much I might make an hour? Also how fast is the hiring process? Being single and moving with 3 kids and a grand baby means I can't be without an income long. KWIM
Does MSU have a NP program or will I have to go to Dallas for that?
Pat
There is a MSN program at Midwestern State University, there are a few nurses doing that right now. Also, some are going to Texas Tech University which is out of Lubbock, and it is online. So you have some close options. As far as how much you'll be making, I don't know. I know new graduates are 22.50, but that doesnt' do you well. The hiring process is this, they will select you for an interview if you meet the qualifications. You will interview with HR, then if she likes you your app will be fwd to the manager of that dept. If they are interested, you have an interview with them. Then if you pass that, you will have what is called a "peer interview". It will be people from your job description so in your case a few RNs, and they will ask you questions. They are seeing if you will fit well with the team. So if that goes well, you will be hired. So it is a 3 step process
