Moving from Vancouver to Victoria Island

Published

Hi,guys...we've just moved here in Vancouver from England, enjoying my job, but find the place "too big and too city"...we would like to check out the island..hearing loads of good things about it from my colleagues and even from my patients...in fact, a few of my colleagues grew up and worked in there..looking for a more laid back place, away from the rat race of a big city..or even a 30 minute drive away from the city or work will do....a place to spend time as a family with our 2 young kids....

Anybody living and working in the island who can give me and my husband some insights???Im a ccu nurse and my husband works in ICU....thank you all for any contributions....:wink2:

Comox Valley has the larger inpatient psych unit (larger than Cowichan Valley) there is also a 4-5 bed PICU.

That is for the public job postings. Once you are hired - likely casual at first? then you can apply for the internal job postings

Wishing you the best :)

hello again guys...thank u all again for all your valuable input...one more thing i need to know, how far is Saan Pen from Victoria (Royal Jubilee Hospital specifically)...??? I really love cardiology (CCU) and would like and hopefully enjoy the set up in RJH....but my husband might enjoy the trauma unit as a change from ICU over in Saan Pen esp. when you pointed out that morale is good over there....Is it at all possible for me to travel to work in RJH (just in case) and for him to work in Saan Pen? Accomodation I guess, will be the next issue, as in how to get a place in between? I've got a map of Greater Victoria, it seems such a distance from Saanich & Victoria proper...ooops, im just planning to start my driving lessons soon, so buses is a must for me for the meantine, in case we decide to move there....cheers....pls tell me its not as bad as here in Vancouver mainland....

I don't think the commute is too bad between the two, you definitely want to be in Saanich area and not out towards Colwood and Langford or you get caught up in the "Colwood Crawl". I have a friend I work with that worked Saan Pen and I will talk to her about best places to live. I will warn, Victoria/Saanich is expensive for housing.

I work at Saan Pen - we live in Brentwood which is less than 5 minutes from Saan Pen. AND I also work at RJH and for a 0700 shift, I leave my house by 0620, and am parked and on the unit by 0650. Coming home can sometime take 40 minutes depending on time of day etc. Check usedvictoria , craigslist victoria and Kijiji for accomadation.

Hope that helps Cristina
