Moving Resident off Covid Unit without Negative Test Result?

Published

Not only did my facility keep a resident on the covid unit FOUR DAYS after he tested negative (and moved him directly to a negative floor and not quarantine first), but I just found out that a confirmed positive covid-19 patient was moved to a negative floor without a confirmatory negative test

Can anyone explain this away? This just seems totally insane to me.

Nursing home? It's par for the course. Insanity. And it's a good reason why nursing homes blow up with covid-19.

At the facility I worked at they had 1 resident test positive and 1 direct care provider.

Provider sent home, resident isolated. However, per state guidelines the residents stuff should have been completely removed from his room. The room should have been disinfected. Especially since the resident had a roommate.

Additionally, the break room, time clock with biometric scanner, etc was never cleaned much less disinfected.

Following week over 20 residents test positive with 3 more direct care providers.

Again, nothing is disinfected. Whistleblow to HHS. They only care that the business stays afloat, not about the resident or care givers.

Go Texas.

This is a top 50 home in Texas.

I quit that week. As the only RN other than the DON I had the ethical and legal responsiblity/burden to care for thew folks, not just dole out meds. It was impossible, especially when they slammed me with 50+. LVNs not wearing gloves or washing hands is the norm. Techs leaving residents in urin soaked clothing until I could personally attend them.

Escape while you can.

Is this recent?? Are you working in the hospital now?? I am currently opting to leave LTC for hospital since I am almost done getting my BSN. LTC work culture is no joke. Lots of issues that needs to be addressed sadly
