Moving provinces right after finishing school?

I am set to finish nursing school this December (in Alberta) and would like to move back to BC right after finishing. Will I have a harder time finding a job since I haven't done any clinical placements in BC?

Depends on where you go.

I lived in one place that gave preference to hiring locals, didn't matter how much experience you had.

I am a recent graduate. I did my BScN in Quebec and relocated back home to BC right after. Try applying for the new grad programs within the health authorities. You might have to send lots of resumes before actually hearing back. Lower mainland tends to be more saturated, but there are definitely opportunities out there. However, Northern Health is always looking for new grads nurses. I applied to as many places as possible and got some interview offers after 1-1.5 months after submitting my applications and resume. ? Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. All the best!

I’m from SK but went to school in New Brunswick. I applied all over the country after graduating since I didn’t want to stay in NB. I took a job back home (they were the first ones I got a response from), but I got offers for interviews in other provinces. I know at least one person in my program took a position in Northern BC.

You may not get a job as easily - a lot of new grads get jobs where they preceptor. But it is definitely possible. I took a job in rural SK and then moved back to Saskatoon when the opportunity arose. It wasn’t perfect, but I now have a job in the area I hope to work in long term (I’ve been out less than 3 years).

BC is always looking for RNs. Lately many Alberta, Ontario and Quebec new grads (I guess for Quebec it's mostly from McGill) come here and get a casual job fairly easily (mostly in medical units). They're short everywhere and are always looking for nurses, be it in Vancouver downtown, metro Vancouver, Fraser Valley, and the north.

Usually they hire their preceptors & ESN first. I work at Surrey Memorial Hospital and notice medical units are always short and under staff. You can try to apply as casual to the medical units to get your foot in the door. Because once your in the hospital, your able to see all the internal postings and just apply to units your interested in. You can also look for a job in a private company, get some experience and build your resume. Then in one year you should be able to find a casual position in the hospital
