Moving to Portland

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi,

I'm moving to Portland in January and will be working for a travel agency.

Does anyone have any experience with the hospitals there?

My specialty is labor and delivery and postpartum.

The two major hospital systems here are Legacy and Providence, but there's also a Kaiser Permanente and a few other hospitals in the greater Portland area, including OHSU.

Here are a few websites that will hopefully be of help to you.

Can you recommend which hospitals are the best for new grads? Considering a move to Portland when I graduate next April.

I personally like both the Legacy and Providence hospitals. I've known nurses who have worked for both and no one has any terrible complaints. :) Legacy's Emanuel Hospital is a trauma center, so it's a good one to work for if you want to see a lot of "action".

Welcome (in advance) to Portland! :balloons:

Thanks for the information. I'll take a look at the hospitals you've recommended. :)

Off the top of my head...both Emanual and OHSU have high risk OB units (I can't remember which of the Providence do).

Providence and Legacy and OHSU all have big new grad programs, I've heard it can be hard to get into Legacy without a BSN, OHSU likes BSNs and ADNs with a declared intent to pursue a BSN and Providence doesn't have a degree preference.
