Moving to Largo, Florida

Published

I will be moving to Largo, FL soon. I am a native of FL and miss living there. Does anyone have any opinions of the healthcare system there? Does anyone know what the going wages are? Any suggestions for area to live? Thanks for your help!

As with any area, there are some nice area's in Largo. I believe that Largo Med is one of the worst hospitals I have every been to. When I had my daughter there, they left me to sleep in blood soiled sheets after I had my daughter and didnt bother to clean the blood all over the toilet and bathroom floor. Not small spots either, alot. I had her at 0800 and I had to ask them to change my sheets 24 hours later. The nurse should have noticed it. My dying mother was there for pneumonia and her room was so dirty. She caught an infection in her stool but wouldn't tell the family what it was. Only to wash our hands. (my guess c-dif or merca) I wasn't a nurse then but if I was....... Maybe things have gotten better since or maybe I just had bad luck 2 times. It's been 6 years.

i still gotta praise my largo med. icu, micu, ccu, observation, tele, med/surg, ortho, i loved it all. they did close the OB unit a few years back though. i would work there again in a heartbeat.

as for being a patient, i would ONLY be a patient at morton plant, mease countryside or mease dunedin. i wouldn't dare work there though. every experience i've had there was negative. those nurses are so catty and snotty because they know they work at the best hospital.

p.s. LOVE the "penniless" park (pinellas park) i've never heard that one. we've always just referred to it around here as "the park"

For all people reading posts late (like me) Largo Medical is NOT a good place to work. Been there, done that - and would NEVER consider it again. The stories I could tell would curl your hair. FlwannaB hits it on the head - only I could add soooooooooooo much more to the tale. Actually, read the newspapers and it will tell part of it in print - getting stickers in ER mixed up and having a patient sent home who ended up dying in the parking lot instead of being admitted is just the tip of the iceburg. Then there's always the one who jumped from the fourth floor window after restraints were removed that "weren't needed" - you don't even want to go into staffing, attitudes, unending phone calls and then cancellations - lunch? Yea, right. State was in because of pharmacy mix up last month, had a friend who had surgery there - couldn't control her pain....out of Demerol (ummm....isn't that supposed to be stocked in pharmacy?) Morphine couldn't work so she just got to scream a lot...she was a nurse there - said she'd never do it again. There's more....don't go to Largo, it's slumming.
