Hi. My husband applied to Clear Lake for new grad. externships in the ER and ICU this past May. I believe he was offered about $25/hr with an additional $5 differential for nights, although he decided to go with a hosptial in the medical center. This seemed to be the going rate for new grads. at the time.
My advice would be to apply early and do it right the first time ..
Houston has many hospitals with new grad positions, but also seems to have more new grads then hospitals can handle.
I found it very hard to land a new grad job in Houston - I highly suggest you have one before you move here - you dont want to be stuck without a job for a while..
Good luck - Houston is a great place to live with a ton of hospitals and some great nursing care - and tons of stuff to do on your days off.

It seems like it could be difficult. I'm really nervous about it actually- my overall GPA is not quite the 3.0 many hospitals seem to want (long story, but my GPA for my nursing classes is 3.2)
I'm going to try to have a position set up before I move, but I'm lucky enough to be in a position where I don't have to work for us to survive- so we'd be ok with out an income from me. However, I don't want to have a long break between graduation and starting a new position- I'm nervous I'll 'lose' some of what I've learned and be behind the learning curve for a new grad if I'm not using it.

Wow! Thanks for the info- thats actually more than I thought new grads were getting!
maziedae, I see you are an LVN. I am planning on moving to Houston this july/august. What is the going rate for a new LVN at the VA Medical Center? That's the type of place I am looking to work at and sounds like a great opportunity. Any information you could give me would be great. Thanks!

Hi! I'm moving to the Houston area on June 1 after graduating from an ADN program. I'm hoping to get a position in the ER at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, and wondering if anyone has any information to offer about it, and also the current new grad pay (on average) for the area. Thanks for any replies!
