I live in Hillsborough County, but drive to Pinellas for work. I work in LTC and the pay is much better. I've even had hiring managers in Hillsborough say the pay in Pinellas is much better. Quite a few facilities to have Baylor. I work Baylor now and you really can't beat it. I'm home with my kids all week and work all weekend (kinda sux to work every weekend sometimes, but it works for us right now)!
I'm a new nurse and can't really offer much info on the pay for 15 years experience. If I only work my 12 hours and nothing more, I gross $600 per weekend I work; which is for 24 hours actually worked and 8 hours Baylor per weekend. I often pick up extra shifts as we have a HUGE turnover rate!
Thank you for the information sounds real good...I'm moving to Florida to do my RN....I love working the Baylor because as you said off all week( to go to school). But one last question is..do you have an idea of what the base rate is (starting rate) that's how I can tell how many hours I would have to work if the weekend do not pay enough.......again Thank you
It really depends on where you work. As a new grad my base is $17.50, but I don't make my base. 7-3 I make $18.50 and 3-11 I make $19.50 (I get off at 7pm though). I work 24 hours and get paid for 32. My baylor is paid at $18.50 so my gross is $600 per weekend. I know places in Hillsborough that start $15-$17. I think it really depends on where you go too. With your experience, I'm sure you would make more, but it's a tough market and I don't think anyone is paying top dollar for anyone!! IMO Nurses aren't paid enough no matter where they work!! HTH
Thank you for the information and the honesty...hope when I move to Florida I will find people as honest as you are.....how far is Hillsborough from St. Petersburg? I found out that the school I will be going to is in St.Petersburg.
St Pete is right next to Hillsborough in Pinellas County. I live in South Tampa and work in Pinellas County. Takes about 30 minutes to get to work - 45 if traffic is heavy. Since I work weekends, takes no time to get to work at 6am, but does take a bit more time in the evening. Not a bad drive. I like to decompress after work before seeing the hubby and kids anyway! Pinellas is a great place to live. We are getting ready to buy a house and are looking in Pinellas county as one of our options.
Thanks again for the information..I do have another question...how is housing rental in St.Ptersburg? I will be looking for a single family house to rent and do you know of a good website to search for rentals? I don't want to travel too far since I will be new to Florida and don't know my way around that good.. I will be going to school in St. Pete...again bless you for the information that you are providing me....:)
Try the local newspapers:
St. Pete Times (http://www.tampabay.com/)
Tampa Tribune (http://www2.tbo.com/home/)
I'm sure there are other places to search, but I'm not sure where. I'd start with the newspapers. If you want to look at apartments you can try ForRent.com or Apartments.com. There should be lots of info there too.

Hi,
I live in Hillsborough County (near the Pinellas line) and work PRN at a LTC facility in Pinellas making $23.50/hr (started as a new grad). I also work PRN at an ALF in Hillsborough making $20.00/hr. The pay is pretty good in LTC/ALF here in this area. Our places don't have baylor but many do.
I am also going to attend a LPN-RN program in St Pete and it is an easy drive. My school is directly off of the interstate so that helps! What school will you be attending?
As far as rentals go you can also check http://www.realtor.com for rentals in the area that you like.
Good luck to you!!!
Good luc

I applied to Galen for the Aug.2010 LPN-RN bridge program, passed the PAX-RN entrance test now waiting for the interview part. I was told that the final part of the admission process is the interview part then you get the acceptance pakage. So until then I still don't know if I will be accepted into the program.I will be relocating from another state so until then I will be keeping in touch with everybody on this site.Since Florida is not a compact state I will have to apply for my LPN license before I can start working.I would love to live near the school area or not to far from it..My biggest fear is that since I will be new to the state, area, highways and roads on my way to school if there is traffic I will not know another route..I would appreciate if you could send me some names of LTC that have the baylor program.. Thank You
Lexuan haven't heard from you in awhile..Did you go to the school for your interview yet?if so how was it?
