Maybe this might help you learn about the FLA state to state endorsement FAQs,

http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/nur_faq.html

or,

if not, you could contact them, or, maybe someone who knows will come by and tell you how long it took them.

Apparently, applying online is faster than via snail mail, but, i am in process of doing this, and near as i can tell,

one still has to paper-mail the FBI fingerprint card, but, the Livescan fingerprints go through online. (but, i am still figuring out THAT part out, ha ha)

IF ANYONE KNOWS THIS, feel free to post, otherwise, i'm calling the fla BON on monday to clarify about mailing the FBI card when i apply online..

It is a 29 page application...ha. Oh my, how things have changed!! Used to only be a few pages long(like, maybe 5 or 10 pages) to get RN license in another state, and only one (1) kind of fingerprints were req'd, which you just could do at your local police station,

instead of trying to find a livescan provider in your state, that is approved for use in Florida.

Just seems trickier now than it used to be. (i'm old)

but, i am LOVING the nursys system, oh my, THAT is wayyyyyyyyy easier than what we used to have to do!! YAY!!

Re: skype, maybe some places will use a skype interview, and maybe some won't. I doubt there is any hardfast rule that would apply to every Florida facility...?

Re: being hired long distance, i have been hired a few times long distance, but, that was not lately............ i hear now it is harder for new grads, or even experienced nurses, to get hired in some areas of FLA, but, i don't know this for a fact.

GOOD LUCK!!

I started the endorsement process at the end of December and unfortunately didn't get my cards mailed to them in time before they changed their rules. Now they only except livescan and the only providers approved on their site are listed in Florida, so they told me that I had to use another processor to change my cards into livescan format and then that processor would send it to Florida BON (cost $76.50). Did that and BON said the "scan" was unreadable from the processor and now I had to get another set of FBI cards and start that entire process again. If I lived close to Florida it would've been easier to take a trip there and go through one of the approved livescan processors. Once the "processor" receives your cards it takes about 48 hours to show on the BON, so that part is fast. Unfortunately, I have to go to my local sheriffs department to be ink rolled and they only do it on Tuesday and Thursday during certain hours and by appointment. For what I've read in other posts the "unreadable fingerprints" status is common and has taken some 3 times before it finally goes through. Fingers crossed that doesn't happen to me.

To PMSKE, so you did have to do both the FBI card, AND the livescan? Is that right? Did you finish the online application BEFORE you mailed the FBI cards, or after, or it doesn't matter? Do you understand what that part about "livescan has to capture your photo" means? does "your photo" refer to your fingerprints-- or a picture of your face, or what does that "has to capture your photo" mean?

(yes, i do plan to clarify with FL bon as well, just no harm in hearing your experience, thanks!)

Not sure about the photo part because they didn't take my picture. Yes I had to have the ink roll cards done, then I had to send those to a company called L1 enrollment and they converted them into Livescan and forwarded to the BON. Yes I finished the online application before I sent my cards. Actually I did all the requirements before sending in the cards. As far as I know the only part they need from me now are the cards. The BON as of Friday told me there are other Livescan providers on their list that aren't in Florida but they couldn't tell me if any were located in my state, so I would have to go through the huge list of theirs to see.

OHhh, i see. There is a livescan provider, within an hour of my home, it is "L1 Identity Solutions" which seems to be one of the national ones...

and L1 Identity Solutions IS on the list of livescan providers that Florida approves of. so if i drive over to one the approved livescan providers, and just have my hand scanned, then there is only the one (1) set of fingerprints required?

Or, livescan only scans a card with my fingerprints on it, not my actual hand, ah ha! (shows how dumb i am, eh? i was thinking livescan could scan my actual hand, duh)

Or, wait, i still have to have second set of prints done for the people doing my background check, i think...?

anyway, you might google your town or state, with word "livescan provider", find out who IS in your area, and then check to see if any of your local livescan providers are on this list:

LiveScan Service Providers - Background Screening - Florida Department of Health

?

i wonder if i dehydrate a bit prior to having my prints rolled, if that would help them be more easily visible by livescan...no idea, just don't want to go through having my prints not accepted, cuz it IS a expensive each time.

I am all signed and paid up on Nursys, which seemed like first step,

then

you finish the online application, THEN go to work on doing your fingerprints? or, get the fingerprints done first, THEN finish application??

Florida is a pain in the ass to work with...I also had sent in my application on Dec 19, did the verification with nursys, and now 2 more things left to do, Finger Printing and the Medical Errors course. First Florida told me that I must do my finger printing in their state and I cant get to it which is ridiculous and then later they put a link up on their site for out of state endorses like ourselves. So I need to connect with L1 Enrollment services where I need to get the physical finger printing done at a police station and then mail them the cards and then they process it or send the livescan to Florida. But the fee to L1 is about $77...

So someone here said that they did the same process and it didnt work? is that correct?

//"So someone here said that they did the same process and it didnt work? is that correct?"//

Reply #2 above, that person says some people have to re-do the livescan thing, (about $76 -$77 in my area, too) all over again!!

To sweetnurse786, it might be easier to google livescan providers in YOUR area, then check to see if any of the ones in your area, are also on this list:LiveScan Service Providers - Background Screening - Florida Department of Health

^MOST of these seem to be only serve florida residents, but, if you look hard enough, you can find a few that seem to be national livescan providers.

I'd probably call FL bon with your local livescan agency name, just to avoid wasting your cash, too, if you are mistaken..

also, sorry i re-asked same question, about which order to do, (application first then fingerprints?) now i see someone did post that they did application first, then did the livescan thing.

//"...... later they put a link up on their site for out of state endorses like ourselves. "//

where is this link? how did i miss that?

Marie - Thanks so much for the info! So I did call local places in my area for Livescan and the way it works is that you go in and do it electronically but the results are only sent to the state they are done in. They are not able to send it to other states..trust me, I called at least 5 places and they said the same that they can send it to places locally the livescan. So L1 Enrollment takes the hard copy and sends it to Florida and thats for out of state people. I even called a place in Ohio that said, send the hard copy, they transfer it to livescan and then send it to florida and that process was like over $200...so yeah you have to do livescan in the state itself to send the results in that state, not out of state. I, myself, find the process to be weird but thats how they are done unfortunately :(

but, i am using L1 Identity Solutions, (might be same as your L1 Enrollment..?) and it IS listed as a company that is okay with FL bon,

but, it never crossed my mind to ask if they can send my prints to florida...what! oh no.

i will call them tomorrow, to ask if my local L1 Identity Solutions can send my prints to florida...oh i sure hope so! wow, i'm so glad you posted!! thanks for the heads up on yet another hoop to jump through to get a FL license!!!
