Moving from Florida to Portland

Published

Hi everyone,

Can some fellow RN's give me some advice about Portland. I'm moving from Florida in December 2013 and was wondering if I would have trouble finding a job in the Portland area. I've been a RN for two years and just passed my PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) exam. I work on an intermediate care floor with mainly step-down patients with a few ICU beds. Do you think I would have difficulty find a job? I am taking a trip out there in September to check the area out and would also like to know about younger professional areas to live. I'm 28 and my significant other is 33. Any advice for this Florida boy would be great! Thank you!! :)

I'm a native Oregonian. There's quite a few big hospital systems there. Providence, legacy, kaiser, ohsu/va. Seems like your two years might be good enough to get you in.

If you're moving here without a job yet, I'd say stay around NE Portland. It's a little more central to all the hospital systems in Portland.

I'm getting ready to move back to portland myself. Got a job at a cardiology clinic. Best of luck to you!

Hi! I was wondering if you could share an update since your first post.

I'm a BSN holder with no hospital experience, debating whether I should look for work in either Florida, or Oregon (Portland). I would really appreciate any insight you could give, stating the pros/cons of each state (especially related to nursing work!).

Hope to hear from you! Cheers!
