Hello to all you SC nurses and nursing students,

I am interested in possibly moving to Florence and wanted to know if anybody could tell me about the area and the hospitals there. The Carolinas hospital seems like a nice hospital.

Hello night. Welcome to allnurses and hopefully to SC. What leads you to the Florence area? I wish I could answer questions but it's not one I am familiar with.

I see it's rather small 173 beds and just over 200 RNs. Hopefully someone will read this and help us out. Meanwhile welcome again.

Hi I am a nursing student in Florence. It is actually a nice area. there isn't much to do here. I have alot of family ndfriends working at Carolinas Hospital. My grandmother even volunteers there. I have only heard good things about it. McLeod is here also and tey pay alittle more from what I here. Over all from what I hear though, Carolinas is an overall better place to work. That is just my two cents and what I have heard. I hope you come and like it here. The area is really starting to grow. Good luck in your decision.:specs:

Thanks WannaBRN4, your reply was very helpful. That's just the kind of info I was looking for. Do you know what areas of Florence to stay away from as far as when looking for a house like high crime, etc.?

Oh, I am glad that helped you. The nicer areas are located in South Florence. That is where I live. I live seconds away from Carolinas Hospital. I can see the Hospital from my house as a matter of fact. The two areas that I would stay away from, though I do have family over there are west Florence and North Florence. Especially North Florence. THere are actually areas of West Florence that aren't so bad. Anywere you move you will be no further than 15 mins away from either of the hospitals.I notice alot of nurses live out in my neighborhood and I even see them walking to work early in the morning when I am on the way out to class. If I can be of anymore help please don't hesitate to ask.

Carolinas Hospital System actually employees over 600 nurses and is one of the largest employers in Florence County. The Ed has an annual volume of approx. 40,000 visits per year. PM me for more about CHS.
