Are nursing positions so available in your state/town they recruit people from out of state and pay moving expenses? I can barely get an interview in Madison, WI for anything except the leftovers. Please reply!

Moving or relocation expenses are paid by many facilities, but remember that it is paid as a bonus and taxed much higher than earned incone. And it is usually not paid until you have at least started your work for them.

Please check with your tax advisor on the deductibility of moving expenses. We have moved a number of times due to my husband's employment, and have not been taxed on moving expenses paid by his employer so long as we presented receipts for those expenses. Anything an employer pays above and beyond your documented moving expenses is subject to taxation at your yearly rate.
Many employers will require reimbursement of moving expenses if you do not remain with them for a specified period of time following your move, usually 1-1/2 to 2 years.

I saw an ad recently for hospitals in Arizona offering generous relocation bonuses.
Most hospitals call that relocation bonus and then you are taxed on that amount.
You can deduct the amount that you paid for the actual move, just like you can at any time. And that includes meals and hotel during the move, etc.
The issue is that most of the hospitals do not just give a check back for the expenses, they classify it as a bonus, that is where the issue comes up with taxes. And many do not reimburse it immediately.
Essentially, you are taxed on the amount that the company gives you and then can deduct the moving expenses from your taxes. If the amount is not included, then you cannot deduct it from your taxes. Or the amount over and above it, pretty much a wash, as most moving expenses are less than what the facility is paying.

I have relocated several times and found companies will expense it out. I have never heard of companies giving moving expenses as a taxed bonus, it does not make sense for them to do it this way and costs them more money.
I was never taxed on moving expenses paid by a company even when I received the money directly to pay the moving fees. When companies do it this way, they end up using it as a business deduction on their taxes so it is actually smarter for a company to expense it out.
If companies expense it, it becomes a tax deduction as a business expense, if they give it as a pay bonus, they are paying tax on that money- SUTA, and FUTA. Companies are obligated to half the social security tax on earnings.....
It's like getting expense check- it can be seperate from payroll or included in the same check, but that does not mean it is taxed even if it comes in your weekly check.
Having relocated more than a dozen times when I was married, not one single company charged it as income.
This is all very interesting, thank you for the replies.
