Moving to Boston, advice needed!

Hello,

My family and I will be moving to Boston at the end of Summer 2022. We are unsure of where we are living so I am looking for advice on Boston hospitals as well as hospitals north and south of Boston.

I have 6 years of ICU experience (Neuro and Trauma at Level 1s). Is it hard to find positions? Should I look into travel assignments to get a feel for hospitals or jump right into a permanent position? I also have my MSN in nursing education so are there any good nursing schools to affiliate with for adjunct positions? How is the pay in Boston versus outer neighborhoods?

Any helpful information is appreciated! Thanks!

hello,

I think with your years experience as an ICU nurse, and if you have your BSN, then you should have no problem finding a job in Boston or the surrounding towns. The pay in Boston hospitals is good, whether you choose a union facility or not. MGH pays well, BMC, CHA, The Brigham. I would go on their websites and browse jobs, maybe contact a nurse recruiter in HR in the coming months to show interest and let them know what qualifications and experience you have. Good luck!

Thank you ErinDel! Do you know how the licensure process works too? I saw that MA renews on even years in birthday months. I will be applying for my licensure this Spring/Summer but have an October birthday. Will I have to pay the fee twice this year?

You are welcome. I don't think you will have to pay the fee twice, but I would maybe email them and ask them. My birthday is in October as well and if I remember correctly I think I only paid the fee once when I got my nursing license in July 2014. Not sure if the rules have changed but yes they do make u pay every two years on the even years on your birthday. Good luck!

Hi,

I too have an October birthday. I got my license in February of an even year and was not obligated to renew it that October. Just every two years after.
