Hi all,I was wondering, If I am moving to another state for the first time since I've been a licensed RN, do I apply for a license "by endorsement" I really have no idea.....thanks for your input!

Hi Steve. Contact the BON in the state you are considering moving to. Get the paperwork process rolling along long before you plan on moving. Some states take a VERY LONG TIME to get endorsement in, others are pretty quick about it.
Good luck to you;)
Yes, you need to contact that state's board ASAP. I applied for my new states license in August and got it in October. I was not allowed to work in my new state until I received the license. So it's very important and sometimes it does take a while to get it. The paperwork is usually online at the BON's website.
Thanks for the info!I'm moving from SC to NJ, and already have a multistate license.....NJ has been approved for the Compact, but the BON hasn't implemented it yet it seems. I hope they do before I move next year!
Thanks for the help...
Steve
Compact state or not, you still need to apply for a NJ license if that will be your state of permanent residence. A compact license is good only if you reside in your original state and cross state lines or travel to work in another compact state.
Some states will issue a temporary work permit while your actual license is being processed. I don't know if NJ is one of them, but if so, it is probably worth it to pay the small additional fee necessary to obtain one, as licensure by endorsement can be a long procedure.
Good luck on your move!
The bonus here is you reside in one compact state and are moving to another. I would go to the new state and work there and maintain residence in the old state until you got the new state license. Unfortunately it may not work in all instances, ie permenant employment may be all it takes to establish residency. In others it may be getting a drivers license, voter registration, or enrolling ones children in school.
I would read the rules of both boards of nursing and use them to the best advantage for your situation.
