I don't know how you would go about being an on-site nurse for movies....I think for stunt people they usually have medics around in case something goes wrong. Anything really serious happens, they'd likely have to take the person to a nearby hospital.....maybe get a job in a hospital near Hollywood? Hehe. I don't know.

An interesting (to me anyway) sidenote; are you familiar with the show "Nip/Tuck"? The person who the writers consult about certain procedures and scenes involving the plastic surgery is a nurse! She is a retired nurse (I think) who worked for a number of years with plastic surgeons. I thought that was cool....can't wait for the new season....

I will ask my friend who is an actor - he seems to know everything, maybe he has some ideas?

This is a little off subject of the actual discussion, but i just had to say that i am a faithful Nip/Tuck watcher.......i love that show! When does the new season start anyway?

I believe and have heard that medics are used onset, as well as physicians for high risk stunts. Nurses have very little to do in the movie biz, except for the occasional consulting business for tv shows/movies. Those spots are hard to come by, so a nurse from oklahoma, where the number of docs that are nationally/world known are slim, a spot in the movie business is almost impossible. Now if your related to brad pitt, you probably have the best chance of any oklahoman.....Isnt he originally from oklahoma, or raised here........

Also love "Nip/Tuck" here - had no idea that the consultant was a retired nurse, though. Cool!!

Specializes in Education, Acute, Med/Surg, Tele, etc.

Very very true...sometimes there are Doc's on staff...but most times there is a paramedic team specfic to particular scene risks..like specializing in stunts like fire, falls, motor vehicle, water..etc! I mean..it isn't like they are going to run them to a set and preform invasive procedures if needed...nope they are stablized and taken to local hospitals for care (if not then all sets would have liablity insurance no one could pay!!!!!).

Nurses aren't typically known for field nursing as much anymore, so the chances are slim in finding a job for nursing on set. BUT..if you are interesting in a fun nursing opportunity..and how I found this info out...this is what you do.

Do you like music stars? Look around your area for local volunteer medical teams that work for concerts or large events! In Portland Oregon there are a few..I worked for NorthWest Rock Medicine and it was a friggen BLAST! I got to work closely with so many different types of professions ranging from retired or working MD's that worked at Woodstock (or smoked at Woodstock..LOL!), to the brand new EMT or newly enlisted reservist corpman! It was great...and I have met many popular bands back stage! My fav...Carlos Santana (met him when he came into check a stage hand I was working on who smashed his fingers between two amps and lost 3 fingernails getting his hand out! He was sooooo cool and really cared about his stagehands, and he even saw my son whom I had to bring with me and had him up on stage dancing with the dancing gals~!!!!!! My son was 5...he still remembers!!!!! AWESOME!).

Most cities have these volunteer medics, or they use paramedic teams...but typically the volunteer organizations are cheeper so they will go with them! I know there are many in California, and Oregon (we also have White Dove, which was envolved with Woodstock way back when and that is how they started!)!

Do a web search for these...you may love it like I did, and it is great to have a hobby as a medic doing this..makes my work more tollerable when I know I have a concert comming up and look forward to! :)
