For the Denture & Mouthcare skill, this is what we learned in class: I would ask the resident to remove their dentures and place it in the denture cup. Then I would ask the resident to rinse their mouth with a cup of water and spit it out on to an emesin basin. I would then apply toothpaste to the toothbrush or moisten a swab and ask the resident "Mrs.J", can you give yourself Mouthcare".
However, according to the Prometric outline...it states that the resident is unable to do their mouthcare or clean their dentures on their own.
What's wrong with this picture? I need help please?

If the resident is unable to do their own mouth care, you have to do it for them. You will get some advice from others here :)

Remember to tell the resident what you are doing at each step of the process, even if that resident is unable to respond to you or to communicate.
Wash your hands!
To remove the upper dentures use your pointer finger and thumb and gently rock the dentures back and forth to release. (This is how we learned it in class, however, experience is that you put your pointer finger at the top side of the upper dentures and gently push down, this works SO much better!). The bottom dentures just lift them up. They usually remove the easiest.
Place the dentures in the cup with water. use a toothette or swab and dip in mouth wash. gently run along the gums inside the cheeks and tongue. If they have some teeth, gently brush teeth first, then swab. Discard swab. Bring dentures into the sink. Line the sink with papertowels. Run the water and brush each denture and rinse. Replace back into cup. Remove gloves, wash hands, turn off sink. Place dentures on bedside (with water and tablet in cup). Make sure the cup is properly labeled with resident's name. Lower the bed, wash your hands........
If the resident is unconscious, then you need to make sure their head is tilted to one side and place a towel there so any fluid will drain from their mouth.
I don't think I forgot anything.
go on line and search CNA practice tests. Prometric has a review (I believe) online.
