Anyone in MD attending Mountain State University Lpn-BSN program? How is it,how long is the program. This program is the only option for me right now and would really like to get my BSN. All information and any info would be helpful as far as cost and how many days a week are classes plus clinicals. Please, all information would be helpful. thanks

I did 2 years of the program in Charleston. Convenience has a price. Expensive, expensive, expensive! Some of our instructors were great, but a few were lousy, basically handing us the book and a list of problems. Having class one evening a week was very convenient, but that changed when we got to the nursing classes. We were told that we would have to travel to Beckley occasionally for classes/seminars, the clinicals would be 12 hours long, and oh...the tuition rates are much higher for nursing classes. Whether any of this is still true I don't know, as we were in one of the first cohorts and the program was still developing as we went. My friend and I decided that there had to be a better way, as the "accelerated" aspect of the program seemed to be eroding before our eyes.

We are now 12 weeks away from graduating with the first LPN-AAS nursing class at WV State CTC, soon to be renamed Kanawha Valley CTC. Yeah, we're not BSNs, but we saved about $25,000 and a year of our time. Worth the tradeoff to me! Good luck with whatever you choose to do!

Josinda, have you tried posting this in the WV forum? You might get more responses that way, since it's not really a distance program ...

Thanks for replying. First of all where do you live. Did you have to commute back and forth to WV? When you got to the nursing courses, how many days a week did you attend school? Why would you have to travel to Beckley campus for classes when you signed up for a another campus? How many days a week were the clinicals plus the nursing classess? Congratulations on graduating soon but, what's WV state CTC? Do you also have to commute to Kanawha Valley CTC? What made you finally switch schools? Sorry for all the questions. But I just need to know what I'm getting myself into before getting in deep.

I live in Charleston, WV. My "commute" to class involved walking two blocks from my workplace to the building where the classes were held. There is no campus per se where MSU classes are held in Charleston. They hold classes in various locations in the community. For the two years I attended classes for the prerequisites, we had class one evening a week. When we got to the nursing classes, we were told that there would be some occasional physical assessment class meetings in Beckley, but most of our classes would still meet in Charleston. I don't know if the nursing classes would be more than one day a week, but they said that clinicals would be either one day of every weekend or both days every other weekend, twelve hour shifts.

I am graduating from West Virginia State Community and Technical College, which is currently affiliated with West Virginia State University. They are becoming an independent, freestanding school this year, and the name will change to Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College. They are continuing the LPN-RN program, and plan to expand it. The school is located in Institute, WV, and my commute is only about 20 minutes. I switched schools because I was unwilling to spend two more years, plus @ $25,000, plus long weekend clinical hours on top of my FT job to get my RN. The CTC option is much more time-friendly and MUCH cheaper!
