Mount St Marys University BSN Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone!

I noticed there doesn't seem to be a forum for Mount Saint Marys University BSN program (Located in Brentwood). I have applied to their program for this upcoming fall 2019. As you all may know, the program is said to only accept 10 transfer students a year! I was hoping this forum could get a discussion going about the application process and if anyone has heard back from admissions. The Kaplan would also make an interesting topic. Hope this helps anyone who is nervously waiting for an acceptance email (fingers crossed).

Hi! Could anyone from this forum tell me how much the total cost of the BSN program is here? I haven't been able to find this information online.

Hi everyone,

Do you know what score MSMU requires for passing the Kaplan? Also, what study tools did you use to study for the test?

Thank you!

Hi everyone ? don't know if you guys will get this message since it’s a past thread. But I was wondering if you guys don’t mind sharing your cumulative GPA and science GPA along with your Kaplan scores that granted your guys’ admissions? I’m super nervous I won’t get accepted considering I’m a transfer student. This is my number one choice of school and I don’t want to get another denial. Thank you guys sm!

Hi! I was a transfer student from a community college and I got accepted. I declined the admission offer and chose to go to a CSU instead but my stats were:

overall GPA: 3.69

science GPA: I got A’s in all my prerequisites except for one B in Chemistry 101

Kaplan score: 88%

the Kaplan exam is easier than the TEAS btw in my opinion.
good luck!! ?

AHH! Thank you so much for responding ☺️ & so glad you went with a CSU cause it’s definitely less expensive! I wanted to go that route too but my TEAS score wasn’t competitive ?

What did you use to study for the Kaplan if you don’t mind sharing?

Hey there! I went to a community college in Los Angeles and transferred into MSMU as well.

My stats:

GPA: 4.0

Cumulative: 4.0

Kaplan: 89%

TEAS: 88.7%

I was accepted to CSU Long Beach and CSU Los Angeles too, but decided to go to the mount because of their connections with hospitals in the Los Angeles area (I'm set on working at UCLA or the VA). I know a lot of people might think its crazy to choose an expensive private over a much more affordable cal state, but it's an investment I know will pay for itself. I researched all my choices thoroughly and decided MSMU was the best for me. I do not regret it one bit!

Also, I really want to point out that people will limit their options significantly by not applying to multiple schools. Don't just rely on getting into a CSU, they are REALLY competitive. TEAS and GPA need to be ON POINT if you even want to be considered. That's all they care about: grades and TEAS. I had a lot of other experience that I couldn't even include on my application (worked as a CNA and volunteered at hospitals), but they don't care for that LOL. Actually, CSULA did ask about working in healthcare, but not really in depth. At MSMU, they required an essay, and a letter of recommendation, which really allowed me to present myself as more than just numbers. A lot of people are intimidated by the pricetag, and yes it is pretty expensive, but there are ways to help! Besides, if it weren't for being a student at the mount, I don't think I could have landed my job as a care partner at UCLA. They hire A TON of MSMU students. I also have a very robust clinical experience as I was assigned to multiple great hospitals in the Los Angeles area. (UCLA, VA, Kaiser, Huntington)

Truthfully, too many people set their eyes on certain programs and when they don't get in, they are left with more difficult options like getting into an ADN to BSN bridge program, or going to Westcoast (nothing wrong with that, just even more expensive!) Apply everywhere, even to those places that don't seem ideal because you need a backup plan when you don't get into your first or second or third choice! Hope this helps ?

OMG THIS HELPED IMMENSELY! And thank you for the detailed response! Yes I tried csula and got denied the first time because of my TEAS score ? & I didn’t want to risk applying and wasting my money again. So I have my eyes set on MSMU for their great hospital connections as well! And congrats on getting a job at UCLA! THATS amazing! And I also have volunteer hours and I’m working as a CNA right now ? I just have to write a really good essay! My science GPA is a 4.0 and my cumulative GPA is a 3.7!! I have high hopes :’) thanks again!!

Hey! I'm wondering how does the school assign you for clinical rotations? Do they take into considerations where you live and try to accomodate students? If it's random assignment, do they let you swap with your friends and whatnot?
