Mount St. Mary's Accelerated BSN Fall 2008

Published

I applied for the Mount St Mary's accelrated fall 2008 program and simply wanted to let others know I'm online to bounce ideas around.

It would be great to hear your stories going through the interviewing and acceptance process. Who knows, hopefully we'll even be classmates together this fall...:wink2:

Hi Chris7,

Iwent down to the Mount last week. I am still on 3 schools acceptance lists and still trying to decide. I am not a fan of Los Angeles but really like the Mount. How is your class feeling about the job situation down there? I know some of you received scholarships and jobs but for those of you that didn't. It is just about impossible up here where I also got accepted.. Of course in a year no one knows what is happening.. Just curious what the word is in southern california..

Thanks

I've been checking my WebAdvisor for the past 2 weeks hoping it'll update. So far all my transcripts and letters of rec are listed as "Send in immediately." Is anyone else having this problem? I sent in my materials back in February so I know it got there in time.

I am also still waiting for my WebAdvisor to update. Mine doesn't even list any items to "send in immediately" - it only lists one "info session" I attended over 2 months ago (this should all be listed under "Documents", correct??). Wondering how long I should wait to call and follow up. Gettin' a little anxious here. I hear there are over 300 applicants for Fall 2009, so I'm sure admissions has their hands full. Thankfully I have tracking confirmation that docs were received.. I just sent them 2 weeks ago.

Any input would be much appreciated! :D

Maybe you can follow up by the end of this week? I might do the same if it hasn't updated yet. Based on someone else's comments, they may have even lost our docs!

I spoke with Admissions and they verified that all documents were received (yay!). They said WebAdvisor has not been updated because my docs have not yet been "processed"- whatever that means. Anyway, it's probably the same situation with you...so no need to worry. :)

Guess we'll just have to sit tight in the meantime..

Torrance Memorial Scholarship: I believe 7 of 15 applicants received the scholarship. I don't have any knowledge of these scholarships being affected by the economy... though it's not a stretch to think they could be. FYI, most of the students are in the program have loans. Torrance was not my first choice, but after interviewing with them I realized it was the right place for me. I applied as a backup plan and I'm glad I took the hour to complete the application. Getting into nursing school is full of highs and lows and so is being in nursing school. The best advice I can give is to stay positive and work all your options.

I just got the figures -- kinda scary

Based on the 08/09 school year the following scholarships were awarded:

Kaiser 4

Northridge 2

Torrance 11

I was told the hospitals decide each year how many they will offer yet their site says 40 so I am wondering did the hospitals offer 40 but they only liked 17.. ????? or was 17 what they offered.. oh these times:scrying::rolleyes:

Hi Chris!

I'm not sure if you're still on these forums, but it's been a year since you were accepted so I was wondering if you could tell me a little bit about how you felt about the program. Was it more or less difficult than you thought it would be? How did you manage your school and clinical work with your personal life? I just had my interview last week and am waiting to hear back (fingers crossed).

Hey Everyone,

I've been skimming through your posts and thought I could maybe answer some questions. I just graduated from the Accelerated BSN program at the Mount, this past May. So I'm in the class just before another student, I haven't met him, but apparently we'll be working at Torrance in the fall together since I am one of the recipients of the scholarships too.

As far as hearing if you guys are in the Fall program, I know for a fact they've made their decisions. I happened to run into the Assistant Director, week before last and she said they had just made the final decisions on the Fall class. They had just finished interviews that day and were reviewing all the applicants, so hopefully you guys have heard already, or will soon. Good luck!

I don't think thee class after ours has started their preceptorship yet. However, from my experience there I absolutely loved it!! I was on the pediatric/overflow med surg unit. The people were absolutely amazing to work with and my classmates said the same from their clinical experiences there. Some of my classmates were in Step Down as well as did their leadership rotation in the ED. I also met with HR already and the benefits are amazing, they really take care of their nurses there. Also in regards to the scholarships, the numbers they gave out each year to change. I know my class got 2 of the Northridge scholarships, but by the time the next class started, I don't think any were offered to them. Plus, I know Torrance had 12 positions available to give, but only gave out 11, so they don't HAVE to fill all their spots.

For those deciding what school is best for them, the Mount has such an incredible reputation that in these tough times of getting a job in a new grad program, it definitely helps. About 2/3 of my class has jobs at this point and just about all in hospitals with a new grad program.

I hope I've been able to help a bit and maybe answer some questions here. If you have any more questions, I'll try and help if I can. Good luck to you all and welcome to nursing!!!

Oh and wish me luck, I'm taking the NCLEX next week!!!

Thank you.

Hi Lilly!

Good luck on the NCLEX! I am not a student at The Mount yet, but I have been waitlisted for the Fall class. I was wondering if you happened to know if there were any students from your cohort that actually got pulled from the waitlist? It's just driving me crazy having to do more waiting. Thanks for any info you can provide!

Hi MSMChopeful,

I didn't know of anyone in my class that was waitlisted. For most people the Mount was their first choice school so if they got in they stayed in. But that said, we did have a couple leave just before the program started but it was too late to have someone on the waitlist join. Before you start the program you have to do all this crap like BLS-CPR, first aid class, physical, uniform fitting etc...so it wasn't enough time to get someone off the waitlist.

But don't give up hope because I do know in the May '09 cohort that just started and at least one person from the waitlist was called. I'm not sure what your odds are but good luck!!!

Thanks for the info Lilly! I'm trying not to give up hope!
