base pay in miami i think is $23/hr for rn some hospitals like mercy hospital and baptis hospital may pay a litttle more $25+. for lpn's i think they start at $17-19/hr. also depending the hospital. best bet is to schedule interviews with different hospitals to see the pay!! hope it helps!!

The pay for the Boca area is similar to what Narcan posted above for Miami. You may be able to get a bit more with shift diffs, but not that much more. Also, the hospitals in that Palm Beach County area aren't such great places to work. Most are owned by Tenet and HCA, so be forewarned. In fact, I can't think of even one that I would recommend.

Listen, the cost of living in South Florida, in most areas, is extremely high. An average apartment in a decent neighborhood 3/2, can run between 900-1000 per month plus utilities. If you are only making around 23/hr. You can do the math and see it is doable but very expensive. You should also take up Spanish as the Spanish communities are great in southern Florida.

I used to live in Boca, then in Lake Worth, and finally on Okeechobee Blvd in West Palm. Insurance is high, owning a home is crazy expensive. We moved up north further where the cost of living closer met our pay. Good luck.

Base pay in Miami is lower than the national average: 21-23 $/hr. Most organizations do not pay more for a BSN, at first. They all claim to want BSN prepared nurses but they do not give an external incentive ($) until you are a part of the organization for a few years. Then it may be a requirement for a promotion. Baptist is not any higher, if you chose to go into critical care and you get through the LEAP program then you can make up for it in overtime and bonus in the first year. Look carefully at benefit packages: tuition remission, insurances and the like. That will make a difference. But Miami is NOT competitive. Here they do not think they have a shortage like the rest of the country. Baptist thinks they have a factory of nurses with Miami Dade there on campus and the other organizations count on the other schools and nurses coming in fromother countries to fill the gaps. That is not working for now and does not make sense from a fiscal perspective but even for non Profit, the immediate bottom line is what counts.
