Mount San Jacinto College Nursing Program

Hi there,

I'm thinking about applying to the Mt. San Jacinto College ADN program. I had been talking to a person who works at the hospital I intern at about the college. He currently is going to this college for his masters.

He told me that the nursing program here isn't as impacted as others and that I have a better chance of getting into it as opposed to the one at Palomar College or Cal State San Marcos. (These two colleges are very competitive)

Does anyone here currently go to this college, and even better, is currently enrolled in the nursing program?

I would like to know how easy it is to be accepted, and if you don't mind, what your gpa was.

Honestly, MSJC is a pretty competitive school for their RN program as for there are not many other options around it. They work on a points system (unless they have changed it this year) and you are tallied points for a multitude of different categories. The main category being your grades on you prereq's. You truly do need to have a 4.0 in your prereq's. Some have gotten in with getting a B or C in a math or english course but you cannot have more than 1-2 marks less than an A.

However, there are always exceptions, and you will hear certain stories of people getting in with lesser credentials. Remember, every cohort is different as per the qualities of the applicants changes each semester. One semester you may not get in because the pool of applicants had higher gpa scores and the next semester the pool may be "weaker" and you get in.

They do have other criteria that can get you a few bonus points to help get in such as: being a minority, being bilingual, having a degree of some sort already, having honors courses, and some others I cannot remember at this time.

The program is good, the teachers are strict. For the most part, they are very smart, but are very strict and certain ones are not the most pleasant when it comes to pointing out your faults.

Honestly, if you have your prereq's all done, you want to apply to EVERY school you can find that is within driving range of you. If you pick and choose a certain school, you make take years to get in. The biggest thing is, are the accredited by the BRN, and the answer is yes. You will get licensed. That is all that truly truly matters. The learning experience can vary from school to school, but for the most part they all use similar curriculum and have required subject matter that must be taught (regulated by the BRN) and your own experience and learning will be what you make of it.

MSJC as competitive as any other college. It might be even more competitive than others since they started accepting people only once a year and they are accepting fewer people than other colleges. I was accepted into their program for fall 14; however, I declined because I also was offered a spot at RCC. I have a 4.0 GPA in my sciences and gen eds, I scored 84% on the TEAS. My total points were 95 out of a 100.

This is posted on the MSJC nursing website:

Student admitted to the ADN program in Fall 2013 had an Average GPA = 3.416 and Average TEAS = 72.9%

Students admitted to the ADN Program in Spring 2013 had an Average GPA = 3.824 and Average TEAS = 84.1%

Now you see how competitive it can be.

I have heard that their program is good and their NCLEX pass rate is also great. However, they are not ACEN or NLN credentialed, which can be a problem when you want to work at a VA hospitals. Like mopster said, apply to as many schools as possible (schools that are accredited by the BRN) to increase your chances of getting accepted somewhere.

I just got accepted to the nursing program at MSJC for fall 2014. I have a 4.0 GPA. I also applied to Loma Linda University and got accepted but declined because I received no financial aid and was not willing to come out of there with a ridiculous amount of debt. My advice do great in your prereqs and try to get points in each section. Idk if getting into an RN program is hard as people make it seem since I got into both schools maybe I got lucky? Btw my teas score was horrible. I was freaking out the whole waiting process but don't sweat it try give it all you got and you'll get in :)

Hi, I was wondering what your TEAS score was? I'm aiming for an 82% at least since that gives me 30/35 points on that criteria.. no way would I think I'd get a 90% anyway. That's the only thing I have to do pretty much before I apply T___T so scary
