Im very new to the OR, so things that I see at work constantly amaze me. The majority of what ive seen I never saw before or learned about in nursing school, the technology is really incredible
What are some of the most interesting "technology" devices your OR has ? I mean my hospital has a Da Vinci robot which I found pretty interesting
What about most difficult to handle ?
Seems like technology in the OR is constantly changing, and its pretty frequent to see people have problems with certain devices.

mhy12784, The OR is one of the most technologically advanced areas in a hospital. I was the resource nurse for clinical technology in a large medical center and it can be overwhelming to many, especially new staff. Keep in mind that as cool as it is and all of the things that can be accomplished with technology, there is no substitute for good nursing observation skills and critical thinking. If technology interests you, make it a point to learn how it operates, the limitations and any hazards (and there are many hazards). The daVinci surgical system is impressive looking and I have worked with it extensively and even helped take one apart for repairs. After you get past the skin, it is a lot of pulleys and cables controlled by a computer. As for the most interesting technology in an OR, I tend to think the 3 dimensional navigation systems are kind of neat but I will always be partial to lasers. They are ever expanding in their use and applications and I believe they have just begun to be utilized in surgery. As the technology advances and the pulse controls lead to shorter pulses and better control, the use in Nanomedicine will increase. My advice? learn all about the technology, embrace it, use it and respect it. There are many opportunities for nurses that have an in depth understanding of technology and the science behind it. Good luck.
