Most interesting Micro-organism!!

Published

I need to write a 10 page research paper on a microorganism. Has anybody happened upon a very interesting one? I was thinking trich, and ofcourse there is the dreaded C-Diff. Do you have a better one?

from what i see online it is impetigo or scarlet fever. I am perturbed (>SP?) that my peditrician couldn't tell if that was it. Do you think I should call and get an oral antibiotic for daughter?

Don't want to get this thread shut down for asking/ giving medical advice. Call your pediatrician and ask him to see your daughter again or ask for a dermatology consult.

Community-acquired MRSA is a good one.

VRSA (Vancomycin-resistant) would be interesting too.

Personally, prions scare the heck out of me. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is NOT something on my list of desired illnesses!!

Bacillus cereus.....causes massive hemolysis and quick death in immunocompromised patients. St. Jude did a study about B. cereus and tea.

Clostridium botulinum

I did a paper on it back in college. In some areas of the world, babies would come down with botulism because it was custom to rub dung or soil on the umbilical stump of newborns.

VRE is also interesting or MRSA, as stated above. The CDC does have a wealth of information on MRSA, I just read it at work.:uhoh21:

Does it have to be a disease causing microorganism? I absolutely love diatoms. Their shells being made of glass (silicon based) in a variety of colors and shapes are absolutely beautiful to look at.

If it has to be disease causing what about the one that caused the black plague? That would be interesting to hear more about - especially a contrast of conditions back then and now that could lend to an outbreak.
