Hello all,
I will be starting my ABSN program in a few months. I'd like to start studying so I'm well prepared.
Can you recommend any good resources to get started? What subjects are most important to really get down pat that will be of great aid to me in the fast paced program?
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Honestly you will spend lots of time in school studying. If it makes you feel better brush up on your basic anatomy and physiology, but my recommendation is to take the time you have now to enjoy life. Spend time with friends and family, take on projects or hobbies you might not have time for once school starts, learn how to de-stress and relax. Having strong, positive self-care habits developed will help now and after school starts. They will help you survive the experience with your sanity intact and come out a well-adjusted well-balanced person.
I think it is better to wait until you are in the program to study because that way you are focused on what your instructor wants you to learn, and you can follow their emphases in the material. It's not to say that prior knowledge is bad - it just may not help you all that much and can sometimes create "bad" mental habits around information.

I wouldn't start studying early for any class, because you have no idea what the teacher will want you to know. I started pre-studying A&P I and it was a huge waste of time (and really just confused me).

It would be a waste of time to study ahead of time. Spend your time getting prepped for school.
Get the room that you intend to do your studying and schoolwork in ready. Comfortable seating, lighting, supplies.
Research recipes for quick meals that you can make up in advance when you don't have time to make meals. (There will be many).
Get a Month at a Glance day planner to put all of your assignment dates, quizzes, tests, projects, papers, clinical dates in.
I bought a big dry erase board and put it in a high traffic area with all the stuff in my day planner. It helped lift my mood as the semester went on and items started disappearing from the board.
There are several threads on ideas to get you better organized for nursing school. The number one skill in ABSN programs is organization. Quizzes, tests, papers are given to you at a far quicker rate than traditional semesters. If you are not prepared, you will be wasting precious time figuring out how to get organized and play catch-up the rest of the semester.
