Hi there allnurses.com members!! I am wondering if you can answer a question for me! Let me start by saying I am not a nurse, but please don't hold that against me. I have nothing but respect for nurses and all the stuff you put up with. God bless you all!
I produce safety/training videos and I am currently assigned a project specifically for health care workers about the dangers of working in health care.
So I thought I would come right to the source and see what you think is the most dangerous part of being a nurse?
Is it the patients? the doctors? the food? :)
Seriously, though...I'd love to hear from you!!
Back injuries are the biggie for nurses, and aides. I've known several nurses who have lost their careers due to back injuries.
People generally think getting stuck with a dirty needle from an AIDS pt, or similar things are big dangers for nurses, but those type of scenarios are pretty rare.

A friend of mine got socked in the jaw and manhandled by a demented resident. Broke her jaw and hurt her back.
I've been bitten, scratched, punched, spit on and kicked a few times during the course of my career.
