Most beneficial military branch for a new, male, Med/Surg nurse?

Published

Hey! I will be fixed to graduate from an ACEN accredited nursing school in May!! I'm very excited and I think I want to become a Med/Surg nurse. To me, there is never a dull day in that type of nursing.

Now, I want to join the US military in order to really take myself to that next level. I join not because of the benefits (even though they are nice!! So I hear...) But I want to serve because I just want to really challenge myself mentally and physically for the people who really need it the most; our fighting soldiers.

But the question is: Where do I go? I have seen multiple posts stating that the USAF or the USN are good places to go. As a soon-to-be Med/Surg nurse, where would I benefit the most? I am planning to graduate with a BSN before I enter the military, just to help with the advice! Thank you to anyone that can help!!

You need to get in contact with a health care recruiter from each service to find which one is best for you. Each service has pros and cons. Make sure you speak with a health care recruiter and not the local enlisted recruiter. You can go to each service recruiting web site to find out contact info for a recruiter. Once you fill out the contact info it can take some time before they contact you..

Right now the best branch is the one that will take you. The military in general is overstrength and it has become very competitive. Keep your grades up because GPA is a big factor. If you scroll down to the FAQ section at the bottom of this forum, you'll find a link to a post with general recruiting information and links to healthcare recruiters. Don't get discouraged if they don't want much to do with you until you have the BSN and RN -- they need people who are ready to go without any caveats. Good luck!
