Oh my goodness yes it makes a difference.... You need the Mosby's 2nd or 3rd edition for the FCCA and for CPNE....No other books are accepted for CPNE

I think you're talking about a different book. the specifics can be found in multiple excelsior content guide's and the cpne study guide. as t-lo pointed out, you need the 2nd or 3rd edition and here are the specific's of the 3rd edition as taken from the 18th edition of the study guide:

Ladwig, G. & Ackley, Betty. (2011). Mosby’s Guide to Nursing Diagnosis. (3rd ed.).

St. Louis: Mosby. ISBN 9780323071727.

I used the 3rd edition for the FCCA and the CPNE. I think I got it for $14 on ebay, just be careful there is absolutely NO writing in it if you purchase used, they will examine your books each and every day of the CPNE. That thing will become your best friend as you prepare for the CPNE, and you can take it with you as you test. You can also use tabs for the pages and put the diagnosis (and only the diagnosis) on there for quick references. :-)

woah ok thanks guys, glad i asked! I don't know what I was looking at before lol..love this site!

I had no clue there was required specific books for this test or the CPNE. I need to get on the ball! I only have 2 more nursing exams then I can take the FCCA. What book do you recommend again so I can search for a cheap version?

Thanks! Mosby's 3rd edition? I also didn't know you could use a book at the CPNE.

I didn't know this stuff either until the end of the classes. it doesn't really matter I suppose, since it's the fcca and cpne you need it for. also, they're not required per se, but I don't know if one could do without it, esp at the cpne. you can also use the second edition of Mosby’s Guide to Nursing Diagnosis. it's not just "mosby's". they are the publishing company or whatever and have a million books out there, so calling it "mosby's" is just confusing. if you need to know exactly which one, check your content guides for the exams or look a couple posts above. fyi you can also bring your own drug reference book to the cpne. as beachie mentioned above, you can't have any writing in them (besides your name obviously).
