Hello everyone. I started out as a new Nurse about 5 months ago. I worked part time aka full time 3pm-11pm and filled in whereever necessary sometimes even 7a-7p. It was a great first job for me and i learned alot considering i worked there 3 years as an aide. It was a 130 full facility but we had 4-5 LPNs on staff on each shift. But about 3 months ago, another job offer came open at a small community nursing home about 30 miles from my place of residence. The position was monday-friday evening shift LPN charge/floor nurse. Its in all actuality the same im a floor nurse. This is a 90 bed facility, the issue i had at first however was the much higher patient ratio as we are only 2 nurses per shift. I love this ppsition so far and the people i work with, and have no plans of going anywhere for a very long time. Its been nearly 3 months now but its getting better everyday. The challenge was going from my last job kinda floating to different halls as needed, to this job being responsible for the same halls/unit of residents every day, having to reorder meds, keep up with expiration dates on med cart, new admit paperwork, theres just more pressure in being in charge of the same unit everyday rather that being the fill inner. Never the less, i have learned alot, become a much better LTC Nurse and enjoy every weekend off. Anyone else felt a little overwhelmed at times changing into this kind of position?
