Hey guys, I am thinking of relocating to Saskatchewan. Which city is more cosmopolitan? Regina or Saskatoon?
okay let's see if this works better from home...
take a look at this aerial photo of saskatoon:
nearly the whole city is visible in the photo. the green areas are farm fields and the brown areas are fallow fields (left unplanted to allow the soil to recover).
now look at regina:
virtually the whole city is pictured here.
the next largest cities are moose jaw and prince albert, with a population of about 35,000 each. then there's yorkton with 17,600 and swift current with 15,000 and north battleford with 13,500. those seven communities encompass more than half the population of the entire province (1,034,974 as of october 1, 2009), which covers some 227,100 square miles. the population density of the province is 4.5566 people per square mile and you can't get much more rural than that.
in contrast, the city of davao in the philippines has a population of over 1.36 million, which is more than the whole province of saskatchewan put together. the population density of davao is 1,445 people per square mile. a huge difference no matter how you look at it.
it seems that you're deliberately brushing off information provided to you from people who have actually been to these two cities (and i've been to the rest of them too, more than once) for your own reasons. whatever floats your boat. don't say you weren't told.
Oh no.. dont get me wrong.. i wasnt challenging your knowledge about your own country, I was jus bein curious because that's what I saw on wikipedia. That's why I asked about the cities in this forum so canadians like yourself can shed light on this matter. Im sorry if my posts seemed rather prententious to you. Peace! SK is okay even if it's a rural city, it's way way better than what i'm earning here. Thanks for the info! :-)
My apartment is $750 (one bedroom space). Mostly range from 350 (bachelors' pad) to 1000+ (for two bedroom space). Mostly, landlords will pay for the heat and water while the tenants pay for the energy. You will have to give security deposit (which is equivalent to a month rent) plus one month rent at the start of your rental.
Parking fees ranges from $40-70 per month.
Hope this helps.
I have already booked for an exam in Regina on June 1 and I'll be staying in a hostel of Regina quApelle Health Region given by the SRNA (hostel for clients in a health field), with student rate of $457.00/month which is good for two persons as I'll be going there with my husband. I just hope that our PR visa would be released soon.
Do you know where that hostel is? Can you assist me how to get there upon arriving at the airport? I haven't got their exact address yet because I told the staff who held the room for me that I will call again once I have confirmed a flight sched. Anyone who can share its address and what is like staying there? Please shed some info :) Thanks
When you land in Regina, take a taxi. Regina is a very small city and the airport isn't far from the downtown. The hostel is probably at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, 2180 23rd Avenue. It's 5.6 km from the airport.
There are two ways to pronounce Qu'Appelle, the local way, which is kwa-pel and the French way, which is ka-pel. Either is correct. It translates from the French to "who is calling", and it's the name of the valley nearby. http://www.virtualsk.com/current_issue/valley_of_legend.html

The local newspaper for Regina is the Leaderpost. Reading the local news, opinions, editorials, columnists, and readers comments will expose you to the latest hot topics of dscussion and give you some ideas about Regina's culture.http://www.leaderpost.com/opinion/editorials/index.html
Also, if you are looking for an apartment, check the listings in the classified section of the Leaderpost. As a newcomer, you won't know the reputation of the various neighbourhoods, so before signing a lease, it might be a good idea to check the incidence of neighbourhood crime on the Regina police neighbourhood watch crime maps. http://www.reginapolice.ca/involved_neighbourhood.php If the incidence of crime is high, keep looking until you find a safer neighbourhood.
