7 months of Telemetry enough to tansfer to the CCU?

Hello all

I have completely had it with my telemetry unit. I can't stand being pulled in 20 directions all at once! I feel I need to know and do alot of care for 2 pts than barely enough for 5 or more. Especially when on our floor we can easily transfer a couple of patients to the unit on any given day because they are that sick. Is my 7 months enough? I did very well in school, and my nursing director has told me that she thinks I will do very well, but alas I am nervous about it. Please any insight would be most appreciated. Thanks so much!! :specs:

I have already filed the transfer form to go the ccu, but am looking for some advice, tips, reality check or encouragement!!

I say go for it. You will most likely not regret the move. Good luck- I hope you get the position.

Don't be afraid! Lots of folks go straight from school to the unit with NO experience. At least you have 7 months of tele behind you! Here is some ICU Servival advice: Don't act overly confident or cocky. This really ticks off the seasoned nurses. If they offer to help you, by all means let them. If you act like you don't need the help they won't be so willing to offer it again. Ask questions, even if you think they are stupid. I would rather be the idiot with a live patient than the idot with a dead one... Develop a thick skin. In my experience, unit nurses can be more aggressive, blunt, and vendictive than nurses in other areas. If you find this to be true in your unit, don't take it personally. Avoid those nurses as best you can and focus on the tasks at hand. You may have already read this, but "Rapid Interpretation of EKG's" by Dale Dubin is awesome! I hope it all works out for you! God bless!:rckn:

This may be one of the best quotes ever. I love it!

Turns out I am not going after all, didn't even get a chance to interview because the DON on that floor got the impression when I met her briefly that I was just using the ICU as a "pit stop" on my way to EPS or the Cath lab. In some ways she is right, but isn't that the way all of nursing is nowadays? Most people are looking for experience in some way to get to a goal aren't they? I mean I was looking to stay for a couple of years at least. Oh well, I guess another opportunity may present itself. Thanks for your replies.

Its probably 7 months too many.

Go for it. I spent 1 1/2 years on a neuro floor before going to CCU. I felt so clueless about hearts and was so skiddish about them, that I said I will never learn if I don't just dive in. So I did, and am so happy I did.
