I work at a LTC facility and have roughly 21 pt to care for. I graduated 6 months ago and am still learning the ropes myself. The other day I had four students with me!!! Anyone else have this happen to them?
I can absolutely relate. I work in LTC and the other nurse i was working with was supposed to be trainning this new guy. a little while into the shift he comes up to me and said "[nurse's name] said to follow you around". i couldn't believe it. she had been a nurse for i think 9 years, meanwhile i was officially off orientation for at the most, 1 week (i was a brand new nurse!). i was very unhappy with that, and told him that i probably will not be as helpful as i have only been on my own for about a week. i don't think it was a good decision on her part at all, reguardless of me having worked there for years as an aid..i'm supposed to be trainning him to be a nurse, not an aid. did i mention that he was a brand new LPN as well?? i understand that having to train someone is no picinic, but is that more important than being sure that they're properly trained? not that i am incompetent, but she would have had far more knowledge to offer.
