I think it depends on why you are leaving and your relationship with your manager. If you are leaving because you are unhappy with your manager and she knows it, I wouldn't ask her for a recommendation. On the other hand, if you are leaving because your husband has been transferred out of state, then it would be fine to ask her.

sorry i should have mentioned that it was for grad school. i'm not really leaving.

when is an adequate amount of time that has past before I should ask my manager for a letter of recommendation. I work the night shift.
