I wouldn't use that figure routinely, but there is no doubt that even a medsurg nurse can make that much. 48 hour contracts at $45 for Fastaff plus housing gets you there.
Of course, if you are L&D or other hot specialty and picky, it is a lot easier. Pretty much bottom pay for a traveler is $40 an hour total compensation - which is $80,000 a year.
Last summer I made net take home $10,000 to $11,000 a month in a Neurosurgical ICU, it's definitely possible. Although I was working 50 to 60 hours a week and working with a high paying travel company (Fastaff). I'm now relaxing on the beach for less pay and only 36 hours a week. Some assignments are for the experience and some are for the dollars.

I keep seeing all these Facebook advertisements for travel nurse agencies that boast travel nurses make $10,000 a month. There are always comments that shoot down that statement like, "Who are these nurses that make $10k a month?" or "Yeah right! Travelers don't make that much!" A lot of people I know who are either nurses or thinking about becoming nurses ask me all the time if I make $10,000 a month and I think that's what might be motivating them to do traveling (not that there's anything wrong with that). In all honesty I only choose assignments that pay that much or more because I have a high demand specialty so I can do that. But do regular travelers make at least $10,000 a month? Is that common?
